Genetic diversity and signatures of selection of drug resistance in Plasmodium populations from both human and mosquito hosts in continental Equatorial Guinea

TL;DR: Chloroquine is no longer recommended for malaria treatment in Equatorial Guinea but sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) remains in use in combination with artesunate and is the only drug recommended in preventive chemotherapy in pregnancy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Malaria determining risk factors at the household level in two rural villages of mainland Equatorial Guinea

TL;DR: The study explored the associated risk factors of malaria transmission at the microeconomic level (households) in two rural villages of mainland Equatorial Guinea to reinforce the importance of living conditions associated to a high risk of malaria infection and vulnerability to develop high parasitaemia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genotyping of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains by interdelta sequence typing using automated microfluidics.

TL;DR: It is shown that the comparative analysis of interdelta patterns is more reliable when fragment sizes are compared than when absolute and relative DNA concentrations of each band are considered, and the source of Taq DNA polymerase and technical differences between laboratories have the highest impact on reproducibility, whereas thermal cyclers have little impact.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasmodium falciparum Genetic Diversity in Continental Equatorial Guinea before and after Introduction of Artemisinin-Based Combination Therapy.

TL;DR: An analysis of P. falciparum genetic diversity, focusing on antimalarial resistance-associated molecular markers in two socioeconomically different villages in mainland Equatorial Guinea, suggests that closer monitoring should be maintained to prevent the possible spread of artemisinin resistance in Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Aging Profile of the Portuguese Population: A Principal Component Analysis

TL;DR: Assessment of the social dependence and frailty, as well as social and familial support needs of the elderly in Portugal concludes that a good autonomy, a good perception of health and emotional status are determinant to a good quality of life in elderly.
