TL;DR: The Synchrotron X-ray Methods in Clay Science workshop as mentioned in this paper was held prior to the 11th International Clay Conference on Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interstratification patterns from the pH-dependent intercalation of a tetracycline antibiotic within montmorillonite layers.
TL;DR: These findings imply that, in addition to chemical speciation, a pH-dependent formation of montmorillonite crystallites with unexfoliated layers may be responsible both for the decreased OTC intercalation and for the increased binding on external sites, thus resulting in the different patterns of interstratification as a function of increasing pH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Charge location effect on the hydration properties of synthetic saponite and hectorite saturated by Na+, Ca2+ cations: XRD investigation
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of charge location on the hydration properties of two trioctahedral synthetic minerals: saponite and hectorite, was compared by determining the structural characteristics which were obtained by modelling XRD patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Composition variation of illite-vermiculite-smectite mixed-layer minerals in a bentonite bed from Charente (France)
TL;DR: In this paper, the upper half of a 1 m thick discontinuous bentonite bed interlaminated in the Lower Cenomanian sedimentary formations of the northern Aquitaine basin (France) was studied using X-ray diffraction patterns obtained from the <2 μm fraction in the Ca and K-saturated states.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental aluminization of vermiculite interlayers: An X-ray diffraction perspective on crystal chemistry and structural mechanisms
Bruno Lanson,Bruno Lanson,Eric Ferrage,Eric Ferrage,Fabien Hubert,Fabien Hubert,Dimitri Prêt,Dimitri Prêt,Louis Mareschal,Marie-Pierre Turpault,Jacques Ranger +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a combination of chemical analyses and of X-ray diffraction profile modeling on a series of experimentally self-aluminized samples aimed at an improved description of HI minerals and more especially of their interlayer crystal chemistry is presented.
