Human Obesity Induces Dysfunction and Early Senescence in Adipose Tissue-Derived Mesenchymal Stromal/Stem Cells.
Sabena M. Conley,La Tonya J. Hickson,Todd A. Kellogg,Travis J. McKenzie,Julie K. Heimbach,Timucin Taner,Hui Tang,Kyra L. Jordan,Ishran M. Saadiq,John R. Woollard,Busra Isik,Mohsen Afarideh,Tamar Tchkonia,James L. Kirkland,Lilach O. Lerman +14 more
TL;DR: Human obesity triggers an early senescence program in adipose tissue-derived MSC, which may alter efficacy of this endogenous repair system and hamper the feasibility of autologous transplantation in obese individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute kidney injury in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Shruti Gupta,Samuel A.P. Short,Meghan E. Sise,Jason Prosek,Sethu M. Madhavan,María José Soler,Marlies Ostermann,Sandra M. Herrmann,Ala Abudayyeh,Shuchi Anand,Ilya G. Glezerman,Shveta S. Hsu,Maria C Tio,Suraj Sarvode Mothi,Harkarandeep Singh,Deborah Schrag,Kenar D. Jhaveri,Kerry L. Reynolds,Frank B. Cortazar,David E. Leaf +67 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify predictors of ICPi-AKI and its recovery, and the effect of rechallenge versus no re-challenge on survival was estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers, Clinical Features, and Rechallenge for Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Renal Immune-Related Adverse Events.
Busra Isik,Mariam P. Alexander,Sandhya Manohar,Lisa E. Vaughan,Lisa A. Kottschade,Svetomir N. Markovic,John C. Lieske,Aleksandra Kukla,Nelson Leung,Sandra M. Herrmann +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed patients with cancer treated with ICI therapy between 2014 and 2020 who developed acute kidney injury (AKI) (defined as a ≥ 1.5-fold increase in serum creatinine [SCr]) and compared them with an adjudicated non-ICI-AKI group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolic Syndrome Induces Release of Smaller Extracellular Vesicles from Porcine Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Sabena M. Conley,John E. Shook,John E. Shook,Xiangyang Zhu,Alfonso Eirin,Kyra L. Jordan,John R. Woollard,Busra Isik,La Tonya J. Hickson,Amrutesh S. Puranik,Amrutesh S. Puranik,Lilach O. Lerman +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that metabolic syndrome alters the size distribution of MSC-derived EVs in favor of exosome release, which may reflect MSC injury and membrane recycling in MetS or increased expulsion of waste products, and may have important implications for development of adequate cell-based treatments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hypoxic preconditioning induces epigenetic changes and modifies swine mesenchymal stem cell angiogenesis and senescence in experimental atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis
Busra Isik,Roman Thaler,Busra B. Goksu,Sabena M. Conley,Hayder Al-Khafaji,Arjunmohan Mohan,Mohsen Afarideh,Abdelrhman Abumoawad,Xiang Y. Zhu,James D. Krier,Ishran M. Saadiq,Hui Tang,Alfonso Eirin,La Tonya J. Hickson,Andre J. van Wijnen,Stephen C. Textor,Lilach O. Lerman,Sandra M. Herrmann +17 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that swine ARAS MSCs have decreased angiogenesis and increased senescence compared to healthy M SCs and that HPC mitigates MSC dysfunction, senescentence, and DNA hydroxymethylation in ARas MSC.
