Journal ArticleDOI

The Guillain–Barré syndrome: a true case of molecular mimicry

TL;DR: It is argued that GBS should be considered as an excellent paradigm and an attractive model for elucidation of both host and microbial aspects of molecular mimicry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural Characterization of Campylobacter jejuni Lipooligosaccharide Outer Cores Associated with Guillain-Barré and Miller Fisher Syndromes

TL;DR: It is concluded that molecular mimicry between gangliosides and C. jejuni LOS is the presumable pathogenic mechanism in most cases of C.Jejuni-related Guillain-Barré syndrome, however, the findings suggest that in some cases, other mechanisms may play a role.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacterial peptidoglycan and immune reactivity in the central nervous system in multiple sclerosis

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that peptidoglycan is present within antigen-presenting cells in the brain of multiple sclerosis patients, and may contribute to T- and B-cell activity during brain inflammation without a requirement for local bacterial replication.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical features and response to treatment in Guillain-Barré syndrome associated with antibodies to GM1b ganglioside.

TL;DR: The distinctive clinical features of the patients with anti‐GM1b antibodies show that acute motor neuropathy represents a specific subgroup within GBS and that recognizing these patients may have consequences as to the choice of therapy.
