Bedside detection of awareness in the vegetative state - a cohort study
Damian Cruse,Damian Cruse,Srivas Chennu,Camille Chatelle,Tristan A. Bekinschtein,Davinia Fernández-Espejo,John D. Pickard,Steven Laureys,Adrian M. Owen,Adrian M. Owen +9 more
TL;DR: A novel EEG task involving motor imagery to detect command-following--a universally accepted clinical indicator of awareness--in the absence of overt behaviour is developed and could allow the widespread use of this bedside technique for the rediagnosis of patients who behaviourally seem to be entirely vegetative, but who might have residual cognitive function and conscious awareness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic precision of PET imaging and functional MRI in disorders of consciousness: a clinical validation study
Johan Stender,Johan Stender,Olivia Gosseries,Marie-Aurélie Bruno,Vanessa Charland-Verville,Audrey Vanhaudenhuyse,Athena Demertzi,Camille Chatelle,Marie Thonnard,Aurore Thibaut,Lizette Heine,Andrea Soddu,Mélanie Boly,Caroline Schnakers,Albert Gjedde,Steven Laureys +15 more
TL;DR: Cerebral PET could be used to complement bedside examinations and predict long-term recovery of patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome and active fMRI might also be useful for differential diagnosis, but seems to be less accurate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spasticity after stroke: Physiology, assessment and treatment
Aurore Thibaut,Camille Chatelle,Erik Ziegler,Marie-Aurélie Bruno,Steven Laureys,Olivia Gosseries +5 more
TL;DR: This review aims to define spasticity, describe hypotheses explaining its development after a stroke, give an overview of related neuroimaging studies as well as a description of the most common scales used to quantify the degree of spasticsity, and explore which treatments are currently being used to treat this disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
European Academy of Neurology guideline on the diagnosis of coma and other disorders of consciousness
Daniel Kondziella,Daniel Kondziella,Daniel Kondziella,Andreas Bender,Karin Diserens,W.S. van Erp,Anna Estraneo,Rita Formisano,Steven Laureys,Lionel Naccache,Şerefnur Öztürk,Benjamin Rohaut,Benjamin Rohaut,Jacobo D. Sitt,Johan Stender,Marjaana Tiainen,Andrea O. Rossetti,Olivia Gosseries,Camille Chatelle +18 more
TL;DR: This guideline provides the state‐of‐the‐art evidence regarding the diagnosis of DoC, summarizing data from bedside examination techniques, functional neuroimaging and electroencephalography (EEG).
