Journal ArticleDOI
The care of patients with an abdominal aortic aneurysm: The Society for Vascular Surgery practice guidelines
Elliot L. Chaikof,David C. Brewster,Ronald L. Dalman,Michel S. Makaroun,Karl A. Illig,Gregorio A. Sicard,Carlos H. Timaran,Gilbert R. Upchurch,Frank J. Veith +8 more
TL;DR: Recommendations for evaluating the patient, including risk of aneurysm rupture and associated medical co-morbidities, guidelines for selecting surgical or endovascular intervention, intraoperative strategies, perioperative care, long-term follow-up, and treatment of late complications are provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Results of Stenting versus Endarterectomy for Carotid-Artery Stenosis
Thomas G. Brott,George Howard,Gary S. Roubin,James F. Meschia,Ariane Mackey,William H. Brooks,Wesley S. Moore,Michael D. Hill,Vito A. Mantese,Wayne M. Clark,Carlos H. Timaran,Donald Heck,Pierre P. Leimgruber,Alice J. Sheffet,Virginia J. Howard,Seemant Chaturvedi,Brajesh K. Lal,Jenifer H. Voeks,Robert W. Hobson +18 more
TL;DR: Over 10 years of follow-up, there did not find a significant difference between patients who underwent stenting and those who underwent endarterectomy with respect to the risk of periprocedural stroke, myocardial infarction, or death and subsequent ipsilateral stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
SVS practice guidelines for the care of patients with an abdominal aortic aneurysm: Executive summary
Elliot L. Chaikof,David C. Brewster,Ronald L. Dalman,Michel S. Makaroun,Karl A. Illig,Gregorio A. Sicard,Carlos H. Timaran,Gilbert R. Upchurch,Frank J. Veith +8 more

Journal ArticleDOI
The Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy versus Stenting Trial (CREST): stenting versus carotid endarterectomy for carotid disease.
TL;DR: In CREST, CAS and CEA had similar short- and longer-term outcomes, and during the periprocedural period, there wasHigher risk of stroke with CAS and higher risk of myocardial infarction with CEA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety of Stenting and Endarterectomy by Symptomatic Status in the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial (CREST)
Frank L. Silver,Ariane Mackey,Wayne M. Clark,William Brooks,Carlos H. Timaran,David Chiu,Larry B. Goldstein,James F. Meschia,Robert D. Ferguson,Wesley S. Moore,George Howard,Thomas G. Brott +11 more
TL;DR: For both CAS and CEA, stroke and death rates were below or comparable to those of previous randomized trials and were within the complication thresholds suggested in current guidelines for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
