Stenting versus Endarterectomy for Treatment of Carotid-Artery Stenosis
Thomas G. Brott,Thomas G. Brott,Robert W. Hobson,George Howard,Gary S. Roubin,Wayne M. Clark,William H. Brooks,Ariane Mackey,Michael D. Hill,Pierre P. Leimgruber,Alice J. Sheffet,Virginia J. Howard,Wesley S. Moore,Jenifer H. Voeks,L. Nelson Hopkins,Donald E. Cutlip,David J. Cohen,Jeffrey J. Popma,Robert D. Ferguson,Stanley N. Cohen,Joseph L. Blackshear,Frank L. Silver,J. P. Mohr,Brajesh K. Lal,James F. Meschia +24 more
TL;DR: Among patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic carotid stenosis, the risk of the composite primary outcome of stroke, myocardial infarction, or death did not differ significantly in the group undergoing carotids-artery stenting and the group undergoes carOTid endarterectomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-Term Results of Stenting versus Endarterectomy for Carotid-Artery Stenosis
Thomas G. Brott,George Howard,Gary S. Roubin,James F. Meschia,Ariane Mackey,William H. Brooks,Wesley S. Moore,Michael D. Hill,Vito A. Mantese,Wayne M. Clark,Carlos H. Timaran,Donald Heck,Pierre P. Leimgruber,Alice J. Sheffet,Virginia J. Howard,Seemant Chaturvedi,Brajesh K. Lal,Jenifer H. Voeks,Robert W. Hobson +18 more
TL;DR: Over 10 years of follow-up, there did not find a significant difference between patients who underwent stenting and those who underwent endarterectomy with respect to the risk of periprocedural stroke, myocardial infarction, or death and subsequent ipsilateral stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age and Outcomes After Carotid Stenting and Endarterectomy The Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy Versus Stenting Trial
Jenifer H. Voeks,George Howard,Gary S. Roubin,Mahmoud B. Malas,David J. Cohen,W. Charles Sternbergh,Herbert D. Aronow,Mark K. Eskandari,Alice J. Sheffet,Brajesh K. Lal,James F. Meschia,Thomas G. Brott +11 more
TL;DR: Outcomes after CAS versus CEA were related to patient age, attributable to increasing risk for stroke after CAS at older ages, and patient age should be an important consideration when choosing between the 2 procedures for treating carotid stenosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of sex on outcomes of stenting versus endarterectomy: a subgroup analysis of the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy versus Stenting Trial (CREST).
Virginia J. Howard,Helmi L. Lutsep,Ariane Mackey,Bart M. Demaerschalk,Albert D. Sam,Nicole R. Gonzales,Alice J. Sheffet,Jenifer H. Voeks,James F. Meschia,Thomas G. Brott +9 more
TL;DR: Periprocedural risk of events seems to be higher in women who have carotid artery stenting than those who havecarotid endarterectomy whereas there is little difference in men.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy versus Stenting Trial: credentialing of interventionalists and final results of lead-in phase.
L. Nelson Hopkins,Gary S. Roubin,Elie Chakhtoura,William A. Gray,Robert D. Ferguson,Barry T. Katzen,Kenneth Rosenfield,Jonathan Goldstein,Donald E. Cutlip,William Morrish,Brajesh K. Lal,Alice J. Sheffet,Mee Lee Tom,Susan E. Hughes,Jenifer H. Voeks,Krishna Kathir,James F. Meschia,Robert W. Hobson,Thomas G. Brott +18 more
TL;DR: The credentialing and training of interventionalists participating in CREST have been the most rigorous reported to date for any randomized trial evaluating endovascular treatments, and it is believed that the randomized trial results fairly contrasted outcomes between endarterectomy and stenting.
