Journal ArticleDOI
The neuroactive potential of the human gut microbiota in quality of life and depression
Mireia Valles-Colomer,Mireia Valles-Colomer,Gwen Falony,Gwen Falony,Youssef Darzi,Youssef Darzi,Ettje F. Tigchelaar,Jun Wang,Jun Wang,Raul Y. Tito,Raul Y. Tito,Raul Y. Tito,Carmen Schiweck,Alexander Kurilshikov,Marie Joossens,Marie Joossens,Cisca Wijmenga,Cisca Wijmenga,Stephan Claes,Lukas Van Oudenhove,Alexandra Zhernakova,Sara Vieira-Silva,Sara Vieira-Silva,Jeroen Raes,Jeroen Raes +24 more
TL;DR: Correlation of microbiome features with host quality of life and depression identified specific taxa and microbial pathways in two independent, large population cohorts, identifying links between microbial neuroactive potential and depression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heart rate and high frequency heart rate variability during stress as biomarker for clinical depression. A systematic review.
TL;DR: A systematic review of studies using electrocardiography to derive heart rate and heart rate variability during stress in patients with clinical depression focused on well-validated stress tasks to minimize confounding effects due to the nature of the stressor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Depression and suicidality: A link to premature T helper cell aging and increased Th17 cells.
Carmen Schiweck,Mireia Valles-Colomer,Volker Arolt,Norbert Müller,Jeroen Raes,Annemarie J. M. Wijkhuijs,Stephan Claes,Hemmo A. Drexhage,Elske Vrieze +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assessed percentages of circulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells with focus on T helper cell subsets (memory T helper cells, Th1, Th2, Th17 and T regulatory cells) in a large and well-matched cohort of 153 patients diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and 153 age and sex matched controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
A dynamic course of T cell defects in individuals at risk for mood disorders
G. Snijders,Carmen Schiweck,Esther Mesman,Laura Grosse,H J de Wit,Willem A. Nolen,Hemmo A. Drexhage,M. H. J. Hillegers +7 more
TL;DR: A subtle partial T cell defect was present in bipolar offspring from adolescence through adulthood, and the dynamic change of inflammatory and regulatory T cell subsets suggests a high inflammatory state during adolescence, a reducedinflammatory state during young adulthood and a virtually normalized state at adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comorbidity of ADHD and adult bipolar disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Carmen Schiweck,Gara Arteaga-Henríquez,Mareike Aichholzer,Sharmili Edwin Thanarajah,Sebastián Vargas-Cáceres,Silke Matura,Oliver Grimm,Jan Haavik,Sarah Kittel-Schneider,Josep Antoni Ramos-Quiroga,Stephen V. Faraone,Andreas Reif +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, a meta-analysis of 71 studies with 646,766 participants from 18 countries was performed to quantify the degree of comorbidity between Attention Deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Bipolar Disorder (BD).
