TL;DR: Estimates of excess odds ratio per pack-year declined with increasing intensity, suggesting greater risk for total exposure delivered at lower intensity for longer duration than for higher intensity for shorter duration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Factors predictive of difficult colonoscopy
Joseph C. Anderson,Catherine R. Messina,William E. Cohn,Edward B. Gottfried,Scott Ingber,Gary Bernstein,Eugene Coman,Joseph Polito +7 more
TL;DR: By using median time required for cecal intubation, several patient characteristics were identified that may predict technical difficulty at colonoscopy, and these findings have implications for practice and teaching.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of active and passive smoking with risk of breast cancer among postmenopausal women: a prospective cohort study
Juhua Luo,Karen L. Margolis,Jean Wactawski-Wende,Kimberly Horn,Catherine R. Messina,Marcia L. Stefanick,Hilary A. Tindle,Elisa K. Tong,Thomas E. Rohan +8 more
TL;DR: Active smoking was associated with an increase in breast cancer risk among postmenopausal women and there was also a suggestion of an association between passive smoking and increased risk of breast cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
High exposure to nicotine among adolescents who use Juul and other vape pod systems ('pods').
Maciej L. Goniewicz,Rachel Boykan,Rachel Boykan,Catherine R. Messina,Alison Eliscu,Alison Eliscu,Jonatan Tolentino,Jonatan Tolentino +7 more
TL;DR: The use of pods among adolescents, surveyed patients 12–21 years seen at three Stony Brook Children’s Hospital outpatient clinics from April 2017 to April 2018, found no data on nicotine exposure among youth who use pod systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Factors that predict incomplete colonoscopy: thinner is not always better.
TL;DR: Whether anatomic factors such as body mass index (BMI) impacts the success rate of cecal intubation during colonoscopy, particularly in women with a low BMI, is reviewed.
