Journal ArticleDOI
The TOMMY trial: a comparison of TOMosynthesis with digital MammographY in the UK NHS Breast Screening Programme - a multicentre retrospective reading study comparing the diagnostic performance of digital breast tomosynthesis and digital mammography with digital mammography alone.
Fiona J. Gilbert,Lorraine Tucker,Maureen G. C. Gillan,Paula Willsher,Julie Cooke,Karen A Duncan,Michael J Michell,Hilary M Dobson,Yit Yoong Lim,Hema Purushothaman,Celia Strudley,Susan M. Astley,Oliver Morrish,Kenneth C. Young,Stephen W. Duffy +14 more
TL;DR: The specificity of DBT and 2D was better than 2D alone but there was only marginal improvement in sensitivity, and the performance of synthetic 2D appeared to be comparable to standard 2D.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development and validation of a modelling framework for simulating 2D-mammography and breast tomosynthesis images
Premkumar Elangovan,Lucy M. Warren,Lucy M. Warren,Alistair Mackenzie,Alistair Mackenzie,Alaleh Rashidnasab,Oliver Diaz,David R. Dance,David R. Dance,Kenneth C. Young,Kenneth C. Young,Hilde Bosmans,Celia Strudley,Kevin Wells +13 more
TL;DR: Two image simulation chains constructed using modelling tools that can be used for the evaluation of 2D-mammography and DBT systems are presented and it is suggested that the simulation approach is a promising alternative to conventional physical performance assessment followed by large scale clinical trials.
Book ChapterDOI
Comparison of breast doses for digital tomosynthesis estimated from patient exposures and using PMMA breast phantoms
David R. Dance,Celia Strudley,Kenneth C. Young,Jennifer M. Oduko,P Whelehan,E. H. Lindsay Mungutroy +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the use of standard PMMA phantoms of appropriate thicknesses (as used for 2D dosimetry) to simulate the breast in DBT provides a reasonable estimate of the AGD.
Book ChapterDOI
A European Protocol for Technical Quality Control of Breast Tomosynthesis Systems
Ruben E. van Engen,Hilde Bosmans,Ramona W. Bouwman,David R. Dance,Patrice Heid,Barbara Lazzari,Nicholas Marshall,S Schopphoven,Celia Strudley,Martin Thijssen,Kenneth C. Young +10 more
TL;DR: Four specific QC tests for DBT, which have reached an (almost) final stage, are presented: reproducibility, system projection MTF, z-resolution and missed tissue at the top and bottom of the reconstructed volume.
Book ChapterDOI
Development of a quality control protocol for digital breast tomosynthesis systems in the TOMMY trial
Celia Strudley,Kenneth C. Young,Jennifer M. Oduko,Padraig T. Looney,Annabel Barnard,Fiona J. Gilbert +5 more
TL;DR: Seven Hologic Dimensions digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) systems installed for the TOMMY trial, a UK based multi-centre trial comparing conventional 2D digital mammography with DBT, were found to be well matched.
