Journal ArticleDOI
Single reading with computer-aided detection for screening mammography.
Fiona J. Gilbert,Susan M. Astley,Maureen G. C. Gillan,Olorunsola F. Agbaje,Matthew G. Wallis,Jonathan James,Caroline Boggis,Stephen W. Duffy +7 more
TL;DR: Single reading with computer-aided detection could be an alternative to double reading and could improve the rate of detection of cancer from screening mammograms read by a single reader.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mammographic density adds accuracy to both the Tyrer-Cuzick and Gail breast cancer risk models in a prospective UK screening cohort
Adam R. Brentnall,Elaine F. Harkness,Elaine F. Harkness,Elaine F. Harkness,Susan M. Astley,Susan M. Astley,Susan M. Astley,Louise S Donnelly,Paula Stavrinos,Paula Stavrinos,Sarah Sampson,Lynne Fox,Jamie C. Sergeant,Jamie C. Sergeant,Michelle Harvie,Mary Wilson,Ursula Beetles,Soujanya Gadde,Yit Yoong Lim,Anil Jain,Anil Jain,Anil Jain,Sara Bundred,N Barr,Valerie Reece,Anthony Howell,Jack Cuzick,D. Gareth Evans,D. Gareth Evans +28 more
TL;DR: Breast density may be usefully combined with the Tyrer-Cuzick model or the Gail model in refinement of breast cancer risk estimation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The TOMMY trial: a comparison of TOMosynthesis with digital MammographY in the UK NHS Breast Screening Programme - a multicentre retrospective reading study comparing the diagnostic performance of digital breast tomosynthesis and digital mammography with digital mammography alone.
Fiona J. Gilbert,Lorraine Tucker,Maureen G. C. Gillan,Paula Willsher,Julie Cooke,Karen A Duncan,Michael J Michell,Hilary M Dobson,Yit Yoong Lim,Hema Purushothaman,Celia Strudley,Susan M. Astley,Oliver Morrish,Kenneth C. Young,Stephen W. Duffy +14 more
TL;DR: The specificity of DBT and 2D was better than 2D alone but there was only marginal improvement in sensitivity, and the performance of synthetic 2D appeared to be comparable to standard 2D.
Journal ArticleDOI
Linear structures in mammographic images: detection and classification
TL;DR: Methods for detecting linear structures in mammograms, and for classifying them into anatomical types (vessels, spicules, ducts, etc), have potentially wide application in improving the specificity of abnormality detection by exploiting additional anatomical information.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accuracy of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for Depicting Breast Cancer Subgroups in a UK Retrospective Reading Study (TOMMY Trial)
Fiona J. Gilbert,Lorraine Tucker,Maureen G. C. Gillan,Paula Willsher,Julie Cooke,Karen A Duncan,Michael J Michell,Hilary M Dobson,Yit Yoong Lim,Tamara Suaris,Susan M. Astley,Oliver Morrish,Kenneth C. Young,Stephen W. Duffy +13 more
TL;DR: The addition of DBT increased the sensitivity of 2D mammography in patients with dense breasts and the specificity of 2 D mammography for all subgroups, and the use of synthetic 2D DBT demonstrated performance similar to that of standard 2D Mammography with DBT.
