Journal ArticleDOI
The global prevalence of IBS in adults remains elusive due to the heterogeneity of studies: a Rome Foundation working team literature review
Ami D. Sperber,Dan L. Dumitrascu,Shin Fukudo,Charles D. Gerson,Uday C Ghoshal,Kok Ann Gwee,A Pali S Hungin,J Y Kang,Chen Minhu,Max Schmulson,Arkady Bolotin,Michael Friger,Tamar Freud,William E. Whitehead +13 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that publication of a single pooled global prevalence rate, which is easily calculated, would not be appropriate or contributory, and future studies should focus on regional and cross-cultural differences that are more likely to shed light on pathophysiology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complete bowel obstruction following initial response to infliximab therapy for crohn's disease: A series of a newly described complication
Lisa S. Toy,Ellen Scherl,Asher Kornbluth,James F. Marion,Adrian J. Greenstein,Saul Agus,Charles D. Gerson,Nathan Fox,Daniel H. Present +8 more
Journal ArticleDOI
An international study of irritable bowel syndrome: family relationships and mind-body attributions.
Mary Joan Gerson,Charles D. Gerson,Richard A. Awad,Christine P. Dancey,Pierre Poitras,Piero Porcelli,Ami D. Sperber +6 more
TL;DR: There were highly significant associations between IBS severity and all other measures and it was found that symptoms were less severe if relationship depth and support were high, and illness was viewed as psychological.
Journal ArticleDOI
A four-country comparison of healthcare systems, implementation of diagnostic criteria, and treatment availability for functional gastrointestinal disorders: a report of the Rome Foundation Working Team on cross-cultural, multinational research.
Max Schmulson,Enrico Corazziari,Ujjala Ghoshal,Seung-Jae Myung,Charles D. Gerson,Eamonn Martin Quigley,Kok-Ann Gwee,Ami D. Sperber +7 more
TL;DR: Variations in healthcare provision around the world may impact how patients with functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGIDs) are investigated, diagnosed, and treated, but these differences have not been reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Irritable bowel syndrome: an international study of symptoms in eight countries.
Charles D. Gerson,Mary Joan Gerson,Richard A. Awad,Abhijit Chowdhury,Christine P. Dancey,Pierre Poitras,Piero Porcelli,Ami D. Sperber,Wei An Wang +8 more
TL;DR: There are significant variations in irritable bowel syndrome symptoms in different geographic locations around the world, suggesting that cultural beliefs, gut contamination, urban and rural location, dietary practice, and psychosocial factors should be further investigated.
