Phenotypic characteristics and prognosis of inpatients with COVID-19 and diabetes: the CORONADO study.
Bertrand Cariou,Samy Hadjadj,Matthieu Wargny,Matthieu Pichelin,Abdallah Al-Salameh,Ingrid Allix,Coralie Amadou,Gwénaëlle Arnault,Florence Baudoux,Bernard Bauduceau,Sophie Borot,Muriel Bourgeon-Ghittori,Olivier Bourron,David Boutoille,Claude Chaumeil,Emmanuel Cosson,Sandrine Coudol,Patrice Darmon,Emmanuel Disse,Amélie Ducet-Boiffard,Bénédicte Gaborit,Michael Joubert,Véronique Kerlan,Bruno Laviolle,Lucien Marchand,Laurent Meyer,Louis Potier,Gaëtan Prévost,Jean-Pierre Riveline,Jean-Pierre Riveline,René Robert,Pierre Jean Saulnier,Ariane Sultan,Jean François Thébaut,Charles Thivolet,Blandine Tramunt,Camille Vatier,Ronan Roussel,Jean François Gautier,Pierre Gourdy +39 more
TL;DR: BMI, but not long-term glucose control, was positively and independently associated with tracheal intubation and/or death within 7 days of admission in people with diabetes hospitalised for COVID-19.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerebellar ataxia with anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies: study of 14 patients.
Jérôme Honnorat,Ana Saiz,Bruno Giometto,Angela Vincent,Luis Brieva,C de Andrés,J Maestre,Nicole Fabien,Alain Vighetto,Roser Casamitjana,Charles Thivolet,Bruno Tavolato,Jean-Christophe Antoine,Paul Trouillas,Francesc Graus +14 more
TL;DR: A link between high level of GAD-Ab and some cases of cerebellar ataxia, particularly women with IDDM is suggested, and the cerebrospinal fluid should be evaluated for the presence of oligoclonal IgG bands and intrathecal synthesis of GADS to further prove an autoimmune origin of the syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adult-Onset Autoimmune Diabetes in Europe Is Prevalent With a Broad Clinical Phenotype: Action LADA 7
Mohammed I. Hawa,Hubert Kolb,Nanette C. Schloot,Huriya Beyan,Stavroula A Paschou,Raffaella Buzzetti,Didac Mauricio,Alberto de Leiva,Knud Bonnet Yderstræde,Henning Beck-Neilsen,Jaakko Tuomilehto,Cinzia Sarti,Charles Thivolet,David R. Hadden,Steven J. Hunter,Guntram Schernthaner,Werner A. Scherbaum,Rhys Williams,Sinead Brophy,Paolo Pozzilli,Paolo Pozzilli,Richard David Leslie +21 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that adult-onset autoimmune diabetes in Europe encompasses type 1 diabetes and LADA in the same broad clinical and autoantibody-positive spectrum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesenchymal stem cells protect NOD mice from diabetes by inducing regulatory T cells.
A. M. Madec,Roberto Mallone,Georgia Afonso,E. Abou Mrad,Aurelia Mesnier,Assia Eljaafari,Charles Thivolet +6 more
TL;DR: MSCs prevent autoimmune beta cell destruction and subsequent diabetes by inducing regulatory T cells and may offer a novel cell-based approach for the prevention of autoimmune diabetes and for islet cell transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A cholera toxoid-insulin conjugate as an oral vaccine against spontaneous autoimmune diabetes
I. Bergerot,Corinne Ploix,Jacob Petersen,Valerie Moulin,Carola Rask,Nicole Fabien,Marianne Lindblad,A. Mayer,Cecil Czerkinsky,Jan Holmgren,Charles Thivolet +10 more
TL;DR: Protection against autoimmune diabetes can be achieved by feeding minute amounts of a pancreas islet cell autoantigen linked to CTB and appears to involve the selective migration and retention of protective T cells into lymphoid tissues draining the site of organ injury.
