A Study of the Comparative Structure of Guilt and Shame in a Chinese Society

TL;DR: The results of the study indicated that guilt was most likely to emerge when individuals had violated a moral norm and held themselves responsible for their conduct, and shame emerged more frequently when subjects felt personally inadequate than when they had violated moral norms.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors review two emerging communication perspectives on idea diffusion and norm emergence: neo-diffusionism and complexity theory, and illustrate in an agent-based modeling study how complexity theory can shed new light on how opinions spread through interpersonal communication in a complex cultural system.
