Elizabeth A. Williamson,Alex J Walker,Krishnan Bhaskaran,Seb Bacon,Chris Bates,Caroline E Morton,Helen J Curtis,Amir Mehrkar,David M. Evans,Peter Inglesby,Jonathan Cockburn,Helen Mcdonald,Brian MacKenna,Laurie A. Tomlinson,Ian J. Douglas,Christopher T Rentsch,Rohini Mathur,Angel Y S Wong,Richard Grieve,David G. TL;DR: A range of clinical factors associated with COVID-19-related death is quantified in one of the largest cohort studies on this topic so far and includes people of white ethnicity, Black and South Asian people were at higher risk, even after adjustment for other factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Andrew Clegg,Chris Bates,John Young,Ronan Ryan,Linda Nichols,Elizabeth Teale,Mohammed A Mohammed,John Parry,Tom Marshall +8 more

OpenSAFELY: factors associated with COVID-19-related hospital death in the linked electronic health records of 17 million adult NHS patients
Elizabeth A. Williamson,Alex J Walker,Krishnan Bhaskaran,Seb Bacon,Chris Bates,Caroline E Morton,Helen J Curtis,Amir Mehrkar,David M. Evans,Peter Inglesby,Jonathan Cockburn,Helen Mcdonald,Brian MacKenna,Laurie A. Tomlinson,Ian J. Douglas,Christopher T Rentsch,Rohini Mathur,Angel Wong,Richard Grieve,David G. Harrison,Harriet Forbes,Anna Schultze,Richard Croker,John Parry,Frank Hester,Sam Harper,Rafael Perera,Stephen J. W. Evans,Liam Smeeth,Ben Goldacre +29 more
TL;DR: People from Asian and black groups are at markedly increased risk of in-hospital death from COVID-19, and contrary to some prior speculation this is only partially attributable to pre-existing clinical risk factors or deprivation; further research into the drivers of this association is therefore urgently required.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV infection and COVID-19 death: a population-based cohort analysis of UK primary care data and linked national death registrations within the OpenSAFELY platform.
Krishnan Bhaskaran,Christopher T Rentsch,Brian MacKenna,Anna Schultze,Amir Mehrkar,Chris Bates,Rosalind M Eggo,Caroline E Morton,Sebastian Bacon,Peter Inglesby,Ian J. Douglas,Alex J Walker,Helen Mcdonald,Jonathan Cockburn,Elizabeth A. Williamson,David M. Evans,Harriet Forbes,Helen J Curtis,William J Hulme,John Parry,Frank Hester,Sam Harper,Stephen J. W. Evans,Stephen J. W. Evans,Liam Smeeth,Ben Goldacre +25 more
TL;DR: People with HIV in the UK seem to be at increased risk of COVID-19 mortality, and targeted policies should be considered to address this raised risk as the pandemic response evolves.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The SARS-CoV-2 B.1.7 variant of concern (VOC) is increasing in prevalence across Europe as discussed by the authors and the authors found increased risk of death for VOC compared with non-VOC cases in England.
