Journal ArticleDOI

Sustained drug release by contact lenses for glaucoma treatment—A review

TL;DR: This paper elaborated a review of the various methods exploited so far to improve the contact lenses' characteristics as mechanisms for controlled and prolonged drug release for topical treatment of ocular diseases, with particular emphasis on the treatment of glaucoma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of regulatory T cells during experimental Leishmania infantum infection.

TL;DR: Findings suggest that distinct regulatory T cells develop in response to L. infantum and may play a possible role in promoting parasite persistence and the establishment of chronic infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytokine gene expression in the tissues of dogs infected by Leishmania infantum.

TL;DR: Evaluating the level of expression of genes encoding particular cytokines in different tissues and organs of 53 adult dogs with or without clinical signs of leishmaniosis and after treatment for the disease concluded that L. infantum appears able to regulate the host immune response in order to ensure its survival, but also to prevent the host from succumbing to infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Leishmania infantum: soluble proteins released by the parasite exert differential effects on host immune response

TL;DR: A role of these proteins fractions in the modulation of host immunity, that depending on the host genetic background and parasite magnitude, seem to be critical in the control of parasite replication levels, thus avoiding premature host death is pointed out.
