TL;DR: Although it is known that diarrheal diseases are a major burden in children, this first global and regional estimates of the disease burden of the most important foodborne bacterial, protozoal, and viral diseases demonstrated for the first time the importance of contaminated food as a cause.
Journal ArticleDOI
How can we achieve and maintain high-quality performance of health workers in low-resource settings?
TL;DR: An international collaborative research agenda is proposed to generate knowledge about the true determinants of performance and about the effectiveness of strategies to improve performance and it is recommended that ministries of health and international organisations should actively help translate research findings into action to improve health.

Multi-country analysis of the effects of diarrhoea on childhood stunting
William Checkley,Gillian J. Buckley,Robert H. Gilman,Ana Marlucia de Oliveira Assis,Richard L. Guerrant,Saul S. Morris,Kåre Mølbak,Palle Valentiner-Branth,Palle Valentiner-Branth,Claudio F. Lanata,Robert E. Black +10 more
TL;DR: In this assembled sample of 24-month-old children, the proportion of stunting attributed to or=2% of the time before 24 years was 18%, consistent with the hypothesis that a higher cumulative burden of diarrhoeas increases the risk of Stunting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global mortality associated with rotavirus disease among children in 2004.
Umesh D. Parashar,Anthony H. Burton,Claudio F. Lanata,Cynthia Boschi-Pinto,Kenji Shibuya,Duncan Steele,Maureen Birmingham,Roger I. Glass +7 more

Jennifer Bryce,Shams El Arifeen,George Pariyo,Claudio F. Lanata,Davidson R. Gwatkin,Jean-Pierre Habicht +5 more
