Journal ArticleDOI
Donor characteristics as risk factors in recipients after transplantation of bone marrow from unrelated donors: the effect of donor age
Craig Kollman,Craig W. S. Howe,Claudio Anasetti,Joseph H. Antin,Stella M. Davies,Alexandra H. Filipovich,J Hegland,Naynesh Kamani,Nancy A. Kernan,Roberta King,Voravit Ratanatharathorn,Daniel J. Weisdorf,Dennis L. Confer +12 more
TL;DR: Age should be considered when selecting among comparably HLA-matched volunteer donors and the use of younger donors may lower the incidence of GVHD and improve survival after bone marrow transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Allogeneic blood stem cell transplantation: considerations for donors
Paolo Anderlini,Martin Korbling,David C. Dale,Alois Gratwohl,Norbert Schmitz,David F. Stroncek,Craig W. S. Howe,Susan F. Leitman,Mary M. Horowitz,Eliane Gluckman,Scott D. Rowley,Donna Przepiorka,Richard E. Champlin +12 more
TL;DR: An "ad hoc" workshop was recently convened among a group of investigators actively involved in the field of allogeneic stem cell transplantation to discuss the safety issues pertaining to normal PBSC donors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Marrow transplantation from unrelated donors for patients with severe aplastic anemia who have failed immunosuppressive therapy.
H. Joachim Deeg,Kristy Seidel,James T. Casper,Claudio Anasetti,Stella M. Davies,James Gajewski,Mary C. Territo,Norma K.C. Ramsay,Richard E. Harris,Hugo Castro-Malaspina,Robert H. Collins,Richard E. Champlin,Gary Schoch,Roberta King,Craig W. S. Howe +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed retrospective results in 141 patients with severe aplastic anemia who received transplants between 1988 and 1995 from an unrelated volunteer donor identified through the National Marrow Donor Program.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed retrospective results in 141 patients with severe aplastic anemia who received transplants between 1988 and 1995 from an unrelated volunteer donor identified through the National Marrow Donor Program.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective grading of graft-versus-host disease after unrelated donor marrow transplantation: a grading algorithm versus blinded expert panel review
Daniel J. Weisdorf,David D. Hurd,Shelly L. Carter,Craig W. S. Howe,Lee Ann Jensen,John E. Wagner,Don Stablein,John S. Thompson,Nancy A. Kernan +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that detailed and expert PR yields GVHD scoring that is internally consistent and reproducible with 89% concordance and can thereby reduce investigator bias, facilitate comparison between centers, and perhaps eliminate the need for an expert PR.
