An ultra-high gain and efficient amplifier based on Raman amplification in plasma
Gregory Vieux,Silvia Cipiccia,D. W. Grant,Nuno Lemos,P. A. Grant,C. Ciocarlan,Bernhard Ersfeld,Min Sup Hur,P. Lepipas,Grace Manahan,Gaurav Raj,Gaurav Raj,D. Reboredo Gil,A. Subiel,A. Subiel,Gregor H. Welsh,S. M. Wiggins,Samuel R. Yoffe,John P. Farmer,Constantin Aniculaesei,Enrico Brunetti,X. Yang,X. Yang,R. Heathcote,Gagik Nersisyan,Crystal S. Lewis,Alexander Pukhov,João Miguel Dias,Dino A. Jaroszynski +28 more
TL;DR: It is shown that 1–100 J pump pulses can amplify picojoule seed pulses to nearly joule level, and the extremely high gain leads to significant amplification of backscattered radiation from “noise”, arising from stochastic plasma fluctuations that competes with externally injected seed pulses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correlating size and composition-dependent effects with magnetic, Mössbauer, and pair distribution function measurements in a family of catalytically active ferrite nanoparticles
Amanda L. Tiano,Georgia C. Papaefthymiou,Crystal S. Lewis,Jinkyu Han,Cheng Zhang,Qiang Li,Chenyang Shi,A. M. Milinda Abeykoon,Simon J. L. Billinge,Simon J. L. Billinge,Eric A. Stach,Justin A. Thomas,Kevin Guerrero,P. Munayco,J. Munayco,Rosa B. Scorzelli,Philip Burnham,Arthur J. Viescas,Stanislaus S. Wong,Stanislaus S. Wong +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a generalized hydrothermal method for the synthesis of single-crystalline ferrite nanoparticles with M = Mg, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn was presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphological and Chemical Tuning of High-Energy-Density Metal Oxides for Lithium Ion Battery Electrode Applications
Lei Wang,Shiyu Yue,Qing Zhang,Yiman Zhang,Yue Ru Li,Crystal S. Lewis,Kenneth J. Takeuchi,Amy C. Marschilok,Esther S. Takeuchi,Esther S. Takeuchi,Stanislaus S. Wong,Stanislaus S. Wong +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the precise roles and effects of controllably varying not only morphology but also chemistry as a means of advancing, ameliorating, and fundamentally tuning the development and evolution of Fe3O4, Li4Ti5O12, TiO2, and LiV3O8 as viable and ubiquitous energy storage materials are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phase stability of thermal barrier coatings made from 8 wt.% yttria stabilized zirconia: A technical note
J. D. Ballard,J. Davenport,Crystal S. Lewis,R. H. Doremus,Linda S. Schadler,Warren Arthur Nelson +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, phase stability in 8 wt.% PSZ coatings with a porous and cracked microstructure was studied for times of up to 10 000 h at temperatures of 982 °C, 1204 °C and 1315 °C.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correlating the chemical composition and size of various metal oxide substrates with the catalytic activity and stability of as-deposited Pt nanoparticles for the methanol oxidation reaction
Megan E. Scofield,Christopher Koenigsmann,Dara Bobb-Semple,Jing Tao,Xiao Tong,Lei Wang,Crystal S. Lewis,Miomir B. Vukmirovic,Yimei Zhu,Radoslav R. Adzic,Stanislaus S. Wong,Stanislaus S. Wong +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of electrode materials in conventional direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFC) is constrained by the low activity of the catalyst materials relative to their overall cost, poisoning of the active sites due to the presence of partially oxidized carbon species (such as CO, formate, and acetate) produced during small molecule oxidation, and the lack of catalytic stability and durability on the underlying commercial carbon support.
