Journal ArticleDOI
Suppression of large edge-localized modes in high-confinement DIII-D plasmas with a stochastic magnetic boundary.
Todd Evans,R.A. Moyer,P R Thomas,J.G. Watkins,T.H. Osborne,Jose Boedo,E. J. Doyle,Max E. Fenstermacher,K.H. Finken,R. J. Groebner,M. Groth,J. H. Harris,R.J. La Haye,C.J. Lasnier,Suguru Masuzaki,Nobuyoshi Ohyabu,D. G. Pretty,T. L. Rhodes,H. Reimerdes,D.L. Rudakov,M.J. Schaffer,G. Wang,Lei Zeng +22 more
TL;DR: Stochastic boundaries are compatible with H modes and may be attractive for ELM control in next-step fusion tokamaks, and the H mode transport barrier and core confinement are unaffected by the stochastic boundary.

Suppression of large edge localized modes with edge resonant magnetic fields in high confinement DIII-D plasmas
Todd Evans,R.A. Moyer,J.G. Watkins,T.H. Osborne,P.R. Thomas,M. Becoulet,Jose Boedo,E. J. Doyle,M.E. Fenstermacher,K.H. Finken,R. J. Groebner,M. Groth,J. H. Harris,G.L. Jackson,R.J. La Haye,C.J. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate that non-axisymmetric edge magnetic perturbations provide a very attractive development path for active ELM control in future tokamaks such as ITER.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the latest results on confinement studies in the TJ-II stellarator and show that the inherently strong plasma-wall interaction of TJII has been successfully reduced after lithium coating by vacuum evaporation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alfvén eigenmodes measured in the TJ-II stellarator
R. Jimenez-Gomez,Axel Könies,E. Ascasibar,F. Castejon,T. Estrada,L. G. Eliseev,A. V. Melnikov,J.A. Jiménez,D. G. Pretty,D. Jiménez-Rey,M. A. Pedrosa,A. de Bustos,Satoshi Yamamoto +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, high frequency modes (150-300 kHz) are found in several magnetic configurations of TJ-II plasmas heated by neutral beam injection (NBI) and the clear dependence of mode frequency on plasma density and mass species suggests them to be Alfveigenmodes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fluctuations and stability of plasmas in the H-1NF heliac
J. H. Harris,Michael Shats,Boyd Blackwell,W. M. Solomon,D. G. Pretty,Scott Collis,John Howard,Hua Xia,Clive Michael,Horst Punzmann +9 more
TL;DR: The H-1NF heliac as discussed by the authors is a medium-sized heliac stellarator experiment with major radius R = 1 m, and average plasma minor radius a = 0.15-0.2 m. Its flexible-heliac coil set permits precise variation in the value and shape of the rotational transform (ι) profile, with regions of both positive and negative shear.
