Active Control of Type-I Edge-Localized Modes with n=1 Perturbation Fields in the JET Tokamak
Yunfeng Liang,H. R. Koslowski,P.R. Thomas,Eric Nardon,B. Alper,Philip Andrew,Y. Andrew,G. Arnoux,Y. Baranov,M. Becoulet,M. Beurskens,T. M. Biewer,M. Bigi,Kristel Crombé,E. de la Luna,P. de Vries,W. TL;DR: Type-I edge-localized modes have been mitigated at the JET tokamak using a static external n=1 perturbation field generated by four error field correction coils located far from the plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, the ITER design requirements were reviewed and as appropriate updated and the focus of this paper will be on recent work affecting ITER with special emphasis on topics affecting near-term procurement arrangements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Suppression of large edge localized modes with edge resonant magnetic fields in high confinement DIII-D plasmas
Todd Evans,R.A. Moyer,J.G. Watkins,T.H. Osborne,P.R. Thomas,M. Becoulet,Jose Boedo,E. J. Doyle,M.E. Fenstermacher,K.H. Finken,R. J. Groebner,M. Groth,J. H. Harris,G.L. Jackson,R.J. La Haye,C.J. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate that non-axisymmetric edge magnetic perturbations provide a very attractive development path for active ELM control in future tokamaks such as ITER.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resonant magnetic perturbation experiments on MAST using external and internal coils for ELM control
A. Kirk,Eric Nardon,R.J. Akers,M. Becoulet,G. De Temmerman,Benjamin Daniel Dudson,Bogdan Hnat,Yueqiang Liu,Romualdo Martín,Patrick Tamain,David Taylor +10 more
TL;DR: Experiments have been performed on MAST using both external and internal resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) coils as mentioned in this paper, showing that either set of coils can produce a region (ΔΨpol > 0.17), for which the Chirikov parameter is greater than 1, wider than that correlated with ELM suppression in DIII-D.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characteristics and scaling of energy and particle losses during Type I ELMs in JET H-modes
A. Loarte,M. Becoulet,G. Saibene,R. Sartori,David Campbell,T. Eich,Albrecht Herrmann,Martin Laux,W. Suttrop,B. Alper,P. J. Lomas,G. F. Matthews,S. Jachmich,J. Ongena,Paolo Innocente +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the relative Type I ELM plasma energy loss (to the pedestal energy) is found to correlate well with the collisionality of the pedestals, showing a weak dependence on the method used to achieve those pedestal plasma parameters: plasma shaping, heating, pellet injection and impurity seeding.
