Regime of very high confinement in the boronized DIII-D tokamak.
G.L. Jackson,J. Winter,T. S. Taylor,Keith H. Burrell,J.C. DeBoo,C. M. Greenfield,R. J. Groebner,T. Hodapp,K.L. Holtrop,E.A. Lazarus,L. L. Lao,S.I. Lippmann,T.H. Osborne,T.W. Petrie,J.C. Phillips,R.A. James,D.P. Schissel,E. J. Strait,A. D. Turnbull,W.P. West,Diii-D Team +20 more
TL;DR: Following boronization, tokamak discharges in D III-D have been obtained with confinement times up to a factor of 3.5 above the ITER89-P {ital L}-mode scaling and 1.8 times greater than the DIII-D/JET {ital H}- mode scaling relation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wroblewski +78 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the L-mode to H-mode transition in the DIII-D tokamak is associated with the sudden reduction in anomalous, fluctuation-connected transport across the outer midplane of the plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rotational and magnetic shear stabilization of magnetohydrodynamic modes and turbulence in DIII‐D high performance discharges
L.L. Lao,K. H. Burrell,T. S. Casper,Vincent Chan,Ming-Sheng Chu,J.C. DeBoo,E. J. Doyle,R. Durst,Cary Forest,C. M. Greenfield,R. J. Groebner,F.L. Hinton,Y. Kawano,E. A. Lazarus,Y. R. Taylor,A. D. Turnbull,R. E. Waltz +31 more
TL;DR: In this article, the confinement and stability properties of the DIII-D tokamak high performance discharges are evaluated in terms of rotational and magnetic shear with emphasis on the recent experimental results obtained from the negative central magnet shear (NCS) experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI

St. John,R. E. Stockdale,P. L. Taylor,Daniel Thomas,A. D. Turnbull,M. R. Wade,R. D. Wood,D.G. Whyte +51 more
TL;DR: Fusion power has been increased by a factor of 3 in DIII-D by tailoring the pressure profile to avoid the kink instability in H-mode plasmas by controlling the plasma pressure profile width.
Journal ArticleDOI
H-Mode Power Threshold Database for ITER
J.A. Snipes,Robert Granetz,Martin Greenwald,O. J. W. F. Kardaun,A. Kus,F. Ryter,Ulrich Stroth,J. Kollermeyer,S.J. Fielding,M. Valovic,J.C. DeBoo,T. N. Carlstrom,D.P. Schissel,K. Tsuchiya,S.M. Kaye +28 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the combined database suggests that the threshold dependence Pthres approximately=0.3neBT2.5 shows reasonable agreement with the data, and therefore lower threshold power for ITER.
