Journal ArticleDOI
Antigenicity and Protective Efficacy of a Leishmania Amastigote-specific Protein, Member of the Super-oxygenase Family, against Visceral Leishmaniasis
Vívian T. Martins,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Lourena E. Costa,Adriana Monte Cassiano Canavaci Martins,Paula S. Lage,Daniela P. Lage,Mariana C. Duarte,Diogo G. Valadares,Rubens Daniel Miserani Magalhães,Tatiana G. Ribeiro,Ronaldo Alves Pinto Nagem,Wanderson D. DaRocha,Wiliam César Bento Régis,Manuel Soto,Eduardo A.F. Coelho,Ana Paula Fernandes,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares +16 more
TL;DR: It is shown that this Leishmania oxygenase amastigote-specific protein can be used for a more sensitive and specific serodiagnosis of asymptomatic and symptomatic CVL and, when combined with a Th1-type adjuvant, can also be employ as a candidate antigen to develop vaccines against VL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel targeting using nanoparticles: an approach to the development of an effective anti-leishmanial drug-delivery system
Tatiana G. Ribeiro,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Diogo G. Valadares,Juçara R. Franca,Lívia B Rodrigues,Mariana C. Duarte,Paula S. Lage,Pedro H.R. Andrade,Daniela P. Lage,Leonardo V Arruda,Daniel R. Abánades,Lourena E. Costa,Vívian T. Martins,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares,Rachel Oliveira Castilho,Eduardo A.F. Coelho,André Augusto Gomes Faraco +16 more
TL;DR: The data presented indicate that the engineered NQC-AmpB nanoparticles could potentially be used as an alternative therapy to treat leishmaniasis, mainly due its low toxicity to mammals’ cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recent updates and perspectives on approaches for the development of vaccines against visceral leishmaniasis.
Mariana C. Duarte,Daniela P. Lage,Vívian T. Martins,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Bruno Mendes Roatt,Daniel Menezes-Souza,Luiz Ricardo Goulart,Luiz Ricardo Goulart,Manuel Soto,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares,Eduardo A.F. Coelho +10 more
TL;DR: Recent advances in control measures for VL based on vaccine development are presented, describing extensively studied antigens, as well as new antigenic proteins recently identified using immuno-proteomic techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI
Poloxamer 407 (Pluronic(®) F127)-based polymeric micelles for amphotericin B: In vitro biological activity, toxicity and in vivo therapeutic efficacy against murine tegumentary leishmaniasis.
Débora V.C. Mendonça,Letícia Martins dos Reis Lage,Daniela P. Lage,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Fernanda Ludolf,Bruno Mendes Roatt,Daniel Menezes-Souza,André Augusto Gomes Faraco,Rachel Oliveira Castilho,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares,Jose Mario Barichello,Mariana C. Duarte,Eduardo A.F. Coelho +12 more
TL;DR: This AmpB/M system could be considered as an alternative for future studies in the treatment of tegumentary leishmaniasis and showed significant reductions in their lesion average size and in the parasite burden in all evaluated infected tissue and organs, when compared to the other groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of differentially expressed proteins from Leishmania amazonensis associated with the loss of virulence of the parasites.
Rubens Daniel Miserani Magalhães,Mariana C. Duarte,Eliciane Cevolani Mattos,Vívian T. Martins,Paula S. Lage,Miguel A. Chávez-Fumagalli,Daniela P. Lage,Daniel Menezes-Souza,William César Bento Regis,Maria Júlia Manso Alves,Manuel Soto,Carlos Alberto Pereira Tavares,Ronaldo A. P Nagen,Eduardo A.F. Coelho +13 more
TL;DR: The understanding that the cultivation of parasites over long periods of time may well be related to the possible loss of infectivity of L. amazonensis is added to the understanding that vaccine candidates and/or immunotherapeutic targets against leishmaniasis are considered.
