Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping the visual field to the optic disc in normal tension glaucoma eyes
TL;DR: A clinically useful map that relates visual field test points to regions of the optic nerve head (ONH) has been produced that will aid clinical evaluation of glaucoma patients and suspects, as well as form the basis for investigations of the relationship between retinal light sensitivity and ONH structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retinal nerve fiber layer axonal loss and visual dysfunction in optic neuritis.
S Anand Trip,S Anand Trip,Patricio G. Schlottmann,Stephen J. Jones,Daniel R. Altmann,Daniel R. Altmann,David F. Garway-Heath,Alan J. Thompson,Gordon T. Plant,David Miller +9 more
TL;DR: This study has demonstrated functionally relevant changes indicative of axonal loss and retinal ganglion cell loss in the RNFL and macula, respectively, after optic neuritis, and this noninvasive RNFL imaging technique could be used in trials of experimental treatments that aim to protect optic nerves from axonal losses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Latanoprost for open-angle glaucoma (UKGTS): a randomised, multicentre, placebo-controlled trial
David F. Garway-Heath,David P. Crabb,Catey Bunce,Gerassimos Lascaratos,Francesca Amalfitano,Nitin Anand,Augusto Azuara-Blanco,Rupert R A Bourne,David C Broadway,Ian A. Cunliffe,Jeremy P. Diamond,Scott G Fraser,Tuan A. Ho,Keith R Martin,Andrew McNaught,Anil Negi,Krishna Patel,Richard A. Russell,Richard A. Russell,Ameet Shah,Paul G. D. Spry,Katsuyoshi Suzuki,E.T. White,Richard Wormald,Wen Xing,Thierry Zeyen +25 more
TL;DR: This is the first randomised placebo-controlled trial to show preservation of the visual field with an intraocular-pressure-lowering drug in patients with open-angle glaucoma, and visual field preservation was significantly longer in the latanoprost group than in the placebo group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corneal Thickness- and Age-Related Biomechanical Properties of the Cornea Measured with the Ocular Response Analyzer
Aachal Kotecha,Ahmed Elsheikh,Cynthia R. Roberts,Haogang Zhu,Haogang Zhu,David F. Garway-Heath,David F. Garway-Heath +6 more
TL;DR: The CCF describes an IOP-independent biomechanical property of the cornea that increases with thicker CCT and decreases with greater age and yet explains more of the interindividual variation in GAT IOP than does CCT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Practical Recommendations for Measuring Rates of Visual Field Change in Glaucoma
Balwantray C. Chauhan,David F. Garway-Heath,Francisco J. Goñi,Luca Rossetti,Boel Bengtsson,Ananth C. Viswanathan,Anders Heijl +6 more
TL;DR: The primary emphasis is on the period of time and number of examinations required to measure various rates of change in mean deviation (MD) with adequate statistical power.
