Can we really predict morbidity and mortality in burn patients

TL;DR: There is a “cutoff” burn size for mortality, sepsis, infection, and multiple organ failure of approximately 60% total body surface area (TBSA) burn for children (< 16 yr) and 40% TBSA for adults from 16 to 65 years, and it is concluded that burns larger than these designated sizes are high risk for morbidity and mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI

An age-dependent population dynamical model with a small parameter

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered an age-dependent population dynamical model with age interaction, where the nonlinear term depends on a small positive parameter and proved that under weak assumptions, the solutions of the non-linear problem give a good approximation to the solution of the linear problem.
Journal ArticleDOI

Negative pressure therapy, a panacea or not?

TL;DR: In this issue, Dr. Bollero and colleagues have written a comprehensive summary of their treatment of acute traumatic wounds with negative pressure therapy (NPT), with impressive results with very difficult wounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Building the Burn Physician Workforce for the 21st Century: Report From February 2014 Burns Workforce Conference
