Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized trial of behavioral activation, cognitive therapy, and antidepressant medication in the acute treatment of adults with major depression.
Sona Dimidjian,Steven D. Hollon,Keith S. Dobson,Karen B. Schmaling,Robert J. Kohlenberg,Michael E. Addis,Robert Gallop,Joseph B. McGlinchey,David K. Markley,Jackie K. Gollan,David C. Atkins,David L. Dunner,Neil S. Jacobson +12 more
TL;DR: Among more severely depressed patients, behavioral activation was comparable to antidepressant medication, and both significantly outperformed cognitive therapy, and the implications of current treatment guidelines and dissemination are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison of nefazodone, the cognitive behavioral-analysis system of psychotherapy, and their combination for the treatment of chronic depression.
Martin B. Keller,James P. McCullough,Daniel N. Klein,Bruce A. Arnow,David L. Dunner,Alan J. Gelenberg,John C. Markowitz,Charles B. Nemeroff,James M. Russell,Michael E. Thase,Madhukar H. Trivedi,John Zajecka +11 more
TL;DR: Although about half of patients with chronic forms of major depression have a response to short-term treatment with either nefazodone or a cognitive behavioral-analysis system of psychotherapy, the combination of the two is significantly more efficacious than either treatment alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized trial of behavioral activation, cognitive therapy, and antidepressant medication in the prevention of relapse and recurrence in major depression.
Keith S. Dobson,Steven D. Hollon,Sona Dimidjian,Karen B. Schmaling,Robert J. Kohlenberg,Robert Gallop,Shireen L. Rizvi,Jackie K. Gollan,David L. Dunner,Neil S. Jacobson +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that behavioral activation may be nearly as enduring as cognitive therapy and that both psychotherapies are less expensive and longer lasting alternatives to medication in the treatment of depression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Factors in Lithium Carbonate Prophylaxis Failure
David L. Dunner,Ronald R. Fieve +1 more
TL;DR: Failure to prevent the recurrence of manic or depressive episodes was observed in 27 of 55 bipolar (manic-depressive) patients who received lithium carbonate for from 6 to 66 months.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brain metabolic alterations in medication-free patients with bipolar disorder
Stephen R. Dager,Seth D. Friedman,Aimee Parow,Christina M. Demopulos,Andrew L. Stoll,In Kyoon Lyoo,David L. Dunner,Perry F. Renshaw +7 more
TL;DR: Gray matter lactate and Glx elevations in medication-free BD patients suggest a shift in energy redox state from oxidative phosphorylation toward glycolysis, and may provide a theoretical framework for future targeted treatment interventions.
