Journal ArticleDOI
Nitric oxide mediates aortic disease in mice deficient in the metalloprotease Adamts1 and in a mouse model of Marfan syndrome
Jorge Oller,Nerea Méndez-Barbero,E. Josue Ruiz,Silvia Villahoz,Marjolijn Renard,Lizet I. Canelas,Ana M. Briones,Rut Alberca,Noelia Lozano-Vidal,María A. Hurlé,Dianna M. Milewicz,Arturo Evangelista,Mercedes Salaices,J. Francisco Nistal,Luis Jesús Jiménez-Borreguero,Julie De Backer,Miguel R. Campanero,Juan Miguel Redondo +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Adamts1 is a major mediator of vascular homeostasis, and a possible causative role for the ADAMTS1–NOS2 axis in human TAAD is uncovered and warrant evaluation of NOS2 inhibitors for therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lgr6 labels a rare population of mammary gland progenitor cells that are able to originate luminal mammary tumours
Leander Blaas,Fabio Pucci,Hendrik A. Messal,Agneta Andersson,E. Josue Ruiz,Marco Gerling,Iyadh Douagi,Bradley Spencer-Dene,Alexandra Musch,Richard Mitter,Leena Bhaw,Richard Stone,Dorothee Bornhorst,Abdul Sesay,Jos Jonkers,Gordon Stamp,Ilaria Malanchi,Rune Toftgård,Axel Behrens,Axel Behrens +19 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Lgr6 marks rare populations of cells in both basal and luminal mammary gland compartments in mice that can initiate tumours, and cells of luminal breast tumours required for efficient tumour maintenance.
Journal ArticleDOI
LUBAC determines chemotherapy resistance in squamous cell lung cancer
E. Josue Ruiz,Markus E. Diefenbacher,Jessica K. Nelson,Rocio Sancho,Fabio Pucci,Atanu Chakraborty,Paula Moreno,Alessandro Annibaldi,Gianmaria Liccardi,Vesela Encheva,Richard Mitter,Mathias Rosenfeldt,Ambrosius P. Snijders,Pascal Meier,Marco A. Calzado,Axel Behrens,Axel Behrens +16 more
TL;DR: Lineage-tracing experiments showed that CC10+, but not basal, cells are the cells of origin of LSCC in KF mice, and LUBAC-mediated NF-&kgr;B signaling as a determinant of chemotherapy resistance in human and mouse.
Journal ArticleDOI
The p57 CDKi integrates stress signals into cell‐cycle progression to promote cell survival upon stress
Manel Joaquin,Albert Gubern,Daniel González-Nuñez,E. Josue Ruiz,Isabel Ferreiro,Eulàlia de Nadal,Angel R. Nebreda,Francesc Posas +7 more
TL;DR: This work shows that p57Kip2 is targeted by the p38 stress‐activated protein kinase (SAPK) and provides a novel molecular mechanism by which cells can delay cell cycle progression to maximize cell survival upon stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
A paracrine network regulates the cross-talk between human lung stem cells and the stroma
TL;DR: Molecular mechanisms involved in the interaction between human lung Lgr6+ stem cells (LSCs) and fibroblasts in a functional microenvironment are defined and a central role for p38α MAPK is revealed in establishing and maintaining such cross-talk, acting in both cell types.
