Risk of acute myocardial infarction with NSAIDs in real world use: bayesian meta-analysis of individual patient data
Michèle Bally,Michèle Bally,Nandini Dendukuri,Benjamin Rich,Lyne Nadeau,Arja Helin-Salmivaara,Edeltraut Garbe,James M. Brophy,James M. Brophy +8 more
TL;DR: All NSAIDs, including naproxen, were found to be associated with an increased risk of acute myocardial infarction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Good research practices for comparative effectiveness research: approaches to mitigate bias and confounding in the design of nonrandomized studies of treatment effects using secondary data sources: the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Good Research Practices for Retrospective Database Analysis Task Force Report--Part II.
TL;DR: The inherent biases when using secondary data sources for comparative effectiveness analysis are discussed and methodological recommendations are provided to help mitigate these biases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs and Risk of Heart Failure in Four European Countries: Nested Case-Control Study
Andrea Arfè,Lorenza Scotti,Cristina Varas-Lorenzo,Federica Nicotra,Antonella Zambon,Bianca Kollhorst,Tania Schink,Edeltraut Garbe,Ron M. C. Herings,H Straatman,R Schade,Marco Villa,S Lucchi,Vera E. Valkhoff,Silvana Romio,Frantz Thiessard,Martijn J. Schuemie,Antoine Pariente,Miriam C. J. M. Sturkenboom,Giovanni Corrao +19 more
TL;DR: The risk of hospital admission for heart failure associated with current use of NSAIDs appears to vary between individual NSAIDs, and this effect is dose dependent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primer: administrative health databases in observational studies of drug effects--advantages and disadvantages.
Samy Suissa,Edeltraut Garbe +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that issues relating to the duration of drug use, immortal time, depletion of susceptibles and overadjustment were problematic sources of bias in these studies and remedies to avoid these pitfalls are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and effectiveness of acellular pertussis vaccination during pregnancy: a systematic review.
Sabine Vygen-Bonnet,Wiebke Hellenbrand,Edeltraut Garbe,Rüdiger von Kries,Christian Bogdan,Ulrich Heininger,Marianne Röbl-Mathieu,Thomas Harder +7 more
TL;DR: Although an increased risk for a diagnosis of fever and chorioamnionitis was detected in pregnant women after pertussis vaccination, there was no association with a higher frequency of clinically relevant sequelae and overall positive benefit-risk ratio.
