Journal ArticleDOI
Brucella abortus Induces the Premature Death of Human Neutrophils through the Action of Its Lipopolysaccharide
Elías Barquero-Calvo,Ricardo Mora-Cartín,Vilma Arce-Gorvel,Juana L. de Diego,Carlos Chacón-Díaz,Esteban Chaves-Olarte,Caterina Guzmán-Verri,Andre G. Buret,Jean-Pierre Gorvel,Edgardo Moreno +9 more
TL;DR: A mechanism for neutropenia in chronic brucellosis is suggested and a novel Brucella-host cross-talk through which B. abortus is able to hinder the innate function of PMN is revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neutrophils Exert a Suppressive Effect on Th1 Responses to Intracellular Pathogen Brucella abortus
Elías Barquero-Calvo,Anna Martirosyan,Anna Martirosyan,Anna Martirosyan,Diana Ordoñez-Rueda,Diana Ordoñez-Rueda,Diana Ordoñez-Rueda,Vilma Arce-Gorvel,Vilma Arce-Gorvel,Vilma Arce-Gorvel,Alejandro Alfaro-Alarcón,Hubert Lepidi,Hubert Lepidi,Bernard Malissen,Bernard Malissen,Bernard Malissen,Marie Malissen,Marie Malissen,Marie Malissen,Jean-Pierre Gorvel,Jean-Pierre Gorvel,Jean-Pierre Gorvel,Edgardo Moreno +22 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that at later times of infection, Brucella abortus is killed more efficiently in the absence of PMNs than in their presence, and the notion that PMNs actively participate in regulatory circuits shaping both innate and adaptive immunity is strengthened.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brucella β 1,2 Cyclic Glucan Is an Activator of Human and Mouse Dendritic Cells
Anna Martirosyan,Camino Pérez-Gutiérrez,Romain Banchereau,Hélène Dutartre,Patrick Lecine,Melissa Dullaers,Marielle Mello,Marielle Mello,Marielle Mello,Suzana P. Salcedo,Suzana P. Salcedo,Suzana P. Salcedo,Alexandre Muller,Alexandre Muller,Alexandre Muller,Lee Leserman,Lee Leserman,Lee Leserman,Yves Levy,Gerard Zurawski,Sandy Zurawski,Edgardo Moreno,Edgardo Moreno,Ignacio Moriyón,Eynav Klechevsky,Eynav Klechevsky,Jacques Banchereau,Sangkon Oh,Jean-Pierre Gorvel,Jean-Pierre Gorvel,Jean-Pierre Gorvel +30 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Brucella β 1,2 cyclic glucans are potent activators of human and mouse dendritic cells and might contribute to the development of effective antimicrobial therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of Brucella abortus Soluble Antigen Employed in Immunoassay
TL;DR: Normal murine spleen cells showed a mitogenic response to BASA similar to that produced by purified smooth lipopolysaccharide, which is a satisfactory antigen for use in the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brucella canis Is an Intracellular Pathogen That Induces a Lower Proinflammatory Response than Smooth Zoonotic Counterparts
Carlos Chacón-Díaz,Pamela Altamirano-Silva,Gabriela González-Espinoza,María-Concepción Medina,Alejandro Alfaro-Alarcón,Laura Bouza-Mora,César Jiménez-Rojas,Melissa Wong,Elías Barquero-Calvo,Norman Rojas,Caterina Guzmán-Verri,Edgardo Moreno,Esteban Chaves-Olarte +12 more
TL;DR: Although B. canis induces a lower proinflammatory response and has a stealthier replication cycle, it still displays the pathogenic properties of the genus and the ability to persist in infected organs based on the able to multiply intracellularly.
