Tenebrio molitor meal in diets for European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) juveniles: Growth performance, whole body composition and in vivo apparent digestibility

TL;DR: Two trials were carried out on European sea bass juveniles to evaluate the effects of dietary inclusion of a full-fat Tenebrio molitor (TM) larvae meal, showing that the highest inclusion level (TM50) led to a worsening of final body weight, weight gain, specific growth rate, and feeding rate if compared to the control diet.
Journal ArticleDOI

Three Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Isotypes from Each of Two Species of Marine Fish

TL;DR: In this paper, the cloning and characterization of cDNAs and genes encoding three peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) isotypes from two species of marine fish, the plaice (Pleuronectes platessa) and the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata), are reported for the first time.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of dietary taurine supplementation on growth performance and bile salt activated lipase activity of common dentex, Dentex dentex, fed a fish meal/soy protein concentrate-based diet

TL;DR: It appears that in dentex, partial substitution of fish meal is possible with 25% of soy protein concentrate without affecting growth, which can be improved further by dietary taurine supplementation of 2 g kg − 1 diet.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spawning period of Mediterranean marine fishes

TL;DR: The knowledge of the spawning period coupled with information on spawning and nursery grounds and detailed knowledge of mating systems, social interactions, maturity and fecundity may be very useful for fisheries management.
Journal ArticleDOI

Starvation and re-feeding affect Hsp expression, MAPK activation and antioxidant enzymes activity of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax).

TL;DR: The experimental feeding trials caused a tissue distinct and differential response on the cellular and antioxidant capacity of sea bass not only during the stressful process of starvation but also in re-feeding.
