Journal ArticleDOI
Epigenetics and gene expression.
TL;DR: The role epigenetics is believed to have in influencing gene expression is outlined and various RNA-mediated processes thought to influence gene expression chiefly at the level of transcription are outlined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Addressing the inter-individual variation in response to consumption of plant food bioactives : Towards a better understanding of their role in healthy aging and cardiometabolic risk reduction
Claudine Manach,Dragan Milenkovic,Tom Van de Wiele,Ana Rodriguez-Mateos,Baukje de Roos,Maria Theresa Garcia-Conesa,Rikard Landberg,Rikard Landberg,Eileen R. Gibney,Marina Heinonen,Francisco A. Tomás-Barberán,Christine Morand +11 more
TL;DR: The main factors likely to affect the individual responses to consumption of plant food bioactives are examined and perspectives for assessment and consideration of inter‐individual variability are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fruit, vegetables, and mushrooms for the preparation of extracts with α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition properties: A review.
Konstantinos Papoutsis,Jinyuan Zhang,Michael C. Bowyer,Nigel P. Brunton,Eileen R. Gibney,James G. Lyng +5 more
TL;DR: The current study aims to review recent evidence regarding the in vitro α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition activities of extracts derived from selected fruit, vegetables, and mushrooms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultra-processed foods in human health: a critical appraisal.
TL;DR: There seems to be little advantage from the use of the NOVA classification compared with the current epidemiologic approach, which relies on the linkage of nutrient intakes to chronic disease with subsequent identification of foods that merit consideration in public health nutrition strategies.
