Journal ArticleDOI
Twin studies in autoimmune disease: genetics, gender and environment.
Dimitrios P. Bogdanos,Daniel S. Smyk,Eirini I. Rigopoulou,Maria G. Mytilinaiou,Michael A. Heneghan,Carlo Selmi,M. Eric Gershwin +6 more
TL;DR: Future research is encouraged not only in the analysis of twins with autoimmune disease, but also in regards to epigenetic factors or rare variants that may be discovered with next-generation sequencing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resolution of chronic hepatitis B and anti-HBs seroconversion in humans by adoptive transfer of immunity to hepatitis B core antigen.
George K. K. Lau,Deepak Suri,Raymond Liang,Eirini I. Rigopoulou,Mark G. Thomas,Ivana Mullerova,Amin Nanji,Siu–Tsan Yuen,Roger Williams,Nikolai V. Naoumov +9 more
TL;DR: This study provides the first evidence in humans that transfer of hepatitis B core antigen-reactive T cells is associated with resolution of chronic HBV infection, and deserves further investigation in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections in health care workers (HCWs): guidelines for prevention of transmission of HBV and HCV from HCW to patients.
R.N. Gunson,Daniel Shouval,Michael Roggendorf,H Zaaijer,H Nicholas,H Holzmann,A de Schryver,D Reynders,Jeff Connell,Wolfram H. Gerlich,Rui Tato Marinho,D Tsantoulas,Eirini I. Rigopoulou,M Rosenheim,Dominique Valla,Puro,Johan Struwe,Richard S. Tedder,Celia Aitken,M Alter,Solko W. Schalm,William F. Carman +21 more
TL;DR: A Europe-wide consensus is reached on the identification of infected HCWs, protection of susceptible HCW, management and treatment options for the infected HCW and guidelines produced aim to reduce the risk of transmission from infectedHCWs to patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mycophenolate for the treatment of autoimmune hepatitis: Prospective assessment of its efficacy and safety for induction and maintenance of remission in a large cohort of treatment-naïve patients
Kalliopi Zachou,Nikolaos K. Gatselis,Georgia Papadamou,Eirini I. Rigopoulou,George N. Dalekos +4 more
TL;DR: MMF seems safe and effective as first-line therapy in inducing and maintaining remission in treatment-naive patients with AIH, having a significant and rapid steroid sparing effect as attested by the fact that so far, 37% of AIH patients achieved CR off prednisolone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microbial mimics are major targets of crossreactivity with human pyruvate dehydrogenase in primary biliary cirrhosis
Dimitrios-Petrou Bogdanos,Harold Baum,Alessandro Grasso,M. Okamoto,P. Butler,Yun Ma,Eirini I. Rigopoulou,P. Montalto,E T Davies,Andrew K. Burroughs,Diego Vergani +10 more
TL;DR: This report reports on a study testing reactivity and competitive cross-reactivity against these respective peptides, and in some cases the parent protein, using sera from 55 patients with PBC, compared to reactivity of 190 pathological and 28 healthy controls.
