The HARMONIE-AROME Model Configuration in the ALADIN-HIRLAM NWP System
Lisa Bengtsson,Ulf Andrae,Trygve Aspelien,Yurii Batrak,Javier Calvo,Wim C. de Rooy,Emily Gleeson,Bent Hansen-Sass,Mariken Homleid,Mariano Hortal,Karl-Ivar Ivarsson,Geert Lenderink,Sami Niemelä,Kristian Pagh Nielsen,Jeanette Onvlee,Laura Rontu,Patrick Samuelsson,Daniel Santos Muñoz,Alvaro Subias,Sander Tijm,Velle Toll,Xiaohua Yang,Morten Køltzow +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the reference configuration of the convection-permitting numerical weather prediction (NWP) model HARMONIE-AROME, which is used for operational short-range weather forecasts in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Sweden, is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
The nearshore wind and wave energy potential of Ireland: A high resolution assessment of availability and accessibility
Sarah Gallagher,Roxana Tiron,Eoin Whelan,Emily Gleeson,Frédéric Dias,Frédéric Dias,Ray McGrath +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a 14-year high resolution wave and wind hindcast was carried out for Ireland using WAVEWATCH III on an unstructured grid with resolution ranging between 10 km offshore and 225m in the nearshore, forced by the downscaled HARMONIE 10m winds and ERA-Interim wave spectra.
Journal ArticleDOI
A look at the ocean in the EC-Earth climate model
Andreas Sterl,Richard Bintanja,Laurent Brodeau,Emily Gleeson,Torben Koenigk,Torben Schmith,Tido Semmler,Camiel Severijns,Klaus Wyser,Shuting Yang +9 more
TL;DR: EC-Earth is a newly developed global climate system model as discussed by the authors, which includes the Integrated Forecast System (IFS) of the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) as the atmo...
Journal ArticleDOI
Spontaneous abrupt climate change due to an atmospheric blocking–sea-ice–ocean feedback in an unforced climate model simulation
TL;DR: A spontaneous abrupt cooling event lasting for more than a century, with a temperature anomaly similar to that of the Little Ice Age is simulated in the preindustrial control run of a high-resolution climate model, without imposing external perturbations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Planck pre-launch status: HFI beam expectations from the optical optimisation of the focal plane
Bruno Maffei,F. Noviello,F. Noviello,J. A. Murphy,Peter A. R. Ade,J.-M. Lamarre,F. R. Bouchet,J. Brossard,J. Brossard,A. Catalano,R. Colgan,R. Gispert,Emily Gleeson,C. V. Haynes,W. C. Jones,W. C. Jones,Andrew E. Lange,Y. Longval,I. McAuley,F. Pajot,T. Peacocke,Giampaolo Pisano,J.-L. Puget,I. Ristorcelli,Giorgio Savini,Rashmikant V. Sudiwala,Richard Wylde,V. Yurchenko +27 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a detailed description of the optical design of the High Frequency Instrument (HFI) together with some of its optical performances measured during the calibration campaigns, and report on the evolution of the knowledge of the pre-launch HFI beam patterns when coupled to ideal telescope elements.
