Global patterns of tectonic stress
Mary Lou Zoback,Mark D. Zoback,John H. Adams,Marcelo Assumpção,S. Bell,Eric A. Bergman,P. Blümling,N. R. Brereton,D. Denham,J. Ding,Karl Fuchs,Soren Gregersen,Harsh K. Gupta,Alexei Gvishiani,Klaus H. Jacob,R. Klein,P. Knoll,M. Magee,J. L. Mercier,B. C. Müller,C. Paquin,Kusala Rajendran,O. Stephansson,Gerardo Suárez,Max Suter,A. Udias,Z. H. Xu,Mikhail Zhizhin +27 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used regional patterns of present-day tectonic stress to evaluate the forces acting on the lithosphere and to investigate intraplate seismicity, and found that most intraplate regions are characterized by a compressional stress regime; extension is limited almost entirely to thermally uplifted regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relocation and assessment of seismicity in the Iran region
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of starting depths, association of teleseismic depth phases, and the effects of reading errors on these phases are made and, when necessary, waveforms have been examined to better constrain EHB focal depths.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epicentre accuracy based on seismic network criteria
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used Monte Carlo simulations of network geometry to estimate the location of the epicentre of a large number of earthquakes and nuclear explosions in published seismic bulletins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Source mechanisms of earthquakes near mid-ocean ridges from body waveform inversion - Implications for the early evolution of oceanic lithosphere
Eric A. Bergman,Sean C. Solomon +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an evaluation of the tectonics of the near-ridge environment based on the source mechanisms of earthquakes in young oceanic lithosphere is presented, and source parameters are determined from body waveform inversions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Continuing megathrust earthquake potential in Chile after the 2014 Iquique earthquake
Gavin P. Hayes,Matthew Herman,William D. Barnhart,Kevin P. Furlong,Sebastian Riquelme,Harley M. Benz,Eric A. Bergman,Sergio Barrientos,Paul S. Earle,Sergey Samsonov +9 more
TL;DR: An assessment of the seismotectonics of the March–April 2014 Iquique sequence, including analyses of earthquake relocations, moment tensors, finite fault models, moment deficit calculations and cumulative Coulomb stress transfer allows us to place the sequence within the context of regional seismicity and to identify areas of remaining and/or elevated hazard.
