Journal ArticleDOI

Role of left atrial appendage obliteration in stroke reduction in patients with mitral valve prosthesis: a transesophageal echocardiographic study.

TL;DR: In this article, left atrial appendage (LAA) ligation in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement is associated with the risk of future embolisms, and when the identification of an incomplete ligation was considered together with the absence of LAA ligation, risk of embolism increased up to 11.9 × (OR 11.5 to 93.6).
Journal ArticleDOI

Two-Dimensional Intraventricular Flow Mapping by Digital Processing Conventional Color-Doppler Echocardiography Images

TL;DR: Clinical Doppler studies showed that the proposed echocardiographic method based on the continuity equation is fast, clinically-compliant and does not require complex training and will potentially enable investigators to study of additional quantitative aspects of intraventricular flow dynamics in the clinical setting by high-throughput processing conventional color-Doppler images.
Journal ArticleDOI

Usefulness of transesophageal echocardiography in percutaneous transcatheter repairs of paravalvular mitral regurgitation.

TL;DR: TEE is a fundamental technique when considering the percutaneous treatment of paravalvular leaks in patients with high surgical risk and provides essential information on the characteristics of the dehiscence during implantation and follow-up.
