Journal ArticleDOI

Adult Alexander's disease without leukoencephalopathy.

TL;DR: It becomes imperative to ascertain the safety of prolonged courses of artemisinin for cancer prophylaxis because of pervasive reports of animal brainstem toxicity, and the gradual emergence of similar patient cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Symptomatic unruptured capillary telangiectasia of the brain stem: report of three cases and review of the literature

TL;DR: Three young patients with transient or intermittent focal neurological signs suggesting brain stem involvement are described, in whom high field MRI showed focal areas of hyperintensity in T2 weighted spin echo images, hypointensity in T 2* weighted gradient echoImages, and enhancement in postcontrast T1 weighted images consistent with unruptured capillary telangiectasia of the brain stem.
Book ChapterDOI

Sympathetic skin response in familial amyloid polyneuropathy

TL;DR: Sympathetic Skin Responses (SSR) amplitude was low also in relatives carrying transthyretin (TTR) mutations but without clinical or EMG evidence of polyneuropathy, suggesting SSR is useful in assessing autonomic involvement in FAP, even in preclinical stages.
Journal ArticleDOI

Haplotype analysis of common transthyretin mutations.

TL;DR: The results suggest that, although the Portuguese Met 30 carriers might have one founder, the mutation probably recurred in populations in Europe in a similar manner to that reported in Japan.
