Monkeypox Virus Infection in Humans across 16 Countries - April-June 2022.
John Thornhill,Sapha Barkati,Sharon Walmsley,Juergen K. Rockstroh,Andrea Antinori,Luke B Harrison,Romain Palich,Achyuta V Nori,I. Reeves,Maximillian S. Habibi,Vanessa Apea,Christoph Boesecke,Linos Vandekerckhove,M. V. Yakubovsky,Elena Sendagorta,José L. S. Tan,Silvia Nozza,J. Nemeth,Marina B Klein,Chloe Orkin +35 more
TL;DR: The simultaneous identification of cases outside areas where monkeypox has traditionally been endemic highlights the need for rapid identification and diagnosis of cases to contain further community spread.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antiretrovirals, Fractures, and Osteonecrosis in a Large International HIV Cohort
Álvaro H. Borges,Jennifer F Hoy,Eric Florence,Dalibor Sedláček,Hans Jürgen Stellbrink,V. Uzdaviniene,J Tomazic,P. Gargalianos-Kakolyris,Patrick Schmid,Chloe Orkin,Court Pedersen,Clifford Leen,Christian Pradier,Fiona Mulcahy,Anna Lisa Ridolfo,Thérèse Staub,Fernando Maltez,Rainer Weber,Leo Flamholc,G. Kyselyova,Jens D Lundgren,Amanda Mocroft,for EuroSIDA +22 more
TL;DR: Exposure to TDF, but not other ARVs, was an independent risk factor for fractures and risk of osteonecrosis was associated with white race, lower nadir CD4, prior oste onecrosis, prior fracture, and prior AIDS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Auditing HIV Testing Rates across Europe: Results from the HIDES 2 Study
Dorthe Raben,Amanda Mocroft,Michael Rayment,Viktar Mitsura,V. Hadziosmanovic,Z. M. Sthoeger,Adrian Palfreeman,S. Rockstroh,Yazdan Yazdanpanah,Yazdan Yazdanpanah,Karen Champenois,Michael Linde Jakobsen,Ann Sullivan,Jens D Lundgren +34 more
TL;DR: Testing rates in well-established HIV ICs remained low across Europe, despite high prevalence rates, reflecting missed opportunities for earlier HIV diagnosis and care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis of Pneumocystis pneumonia: evaluation of four serologic biomarkers
Francisco de Assis Esteves,S.S. Calé,R. Badura,M.G.J. de Boer,Fernando Maltez,Enrique J. Calderón,T. J. K. van der Reijden,E. Márquez-Martín,Francisco Antunes,Olga Matos +9 more
TL;DR: Although less sensitive/specific than the reference standard classic methods based on bronchoalveolar lavage followed by microscopic or molecular detection of P. jirovecii organisms, the BG/KL-6 test may provide a less onerous procedure for PCP diagnosis, as it uses a minimally invasive and inexpensive specimen (blood), which may be also a major benefit for the patient's care.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unraveling Mycobacterium tuberculosis genomic diversity and evolution in Lisbon, Portugal, a highly drug resistant setting
João Perdigão,Hugo Silva,Diana Machado,Rita Macedo,Fernando Maltez,Carla Silva,Luísa Jordão,Isabel Couto,Kim Mallard,Francesc Coll,Grant A. Hill-Cawthorne,Grant A. Hill-Cawthorne,Ruth McNerney,Arnab Pain,Taane G. Clark,Miguel Viveiros,Isabel Portugal +16 more
TL;DR: The data presented by this study yielded insights on microevolution and identification of novel compensatory mutations associated with rifampicin resistance in rpoB and rpoC that support the notion of a growing genomic diversity facing both setting and host adaptation.
