Journal ArticleDOI
Brucellosis in Brazil.
TL;DR: The epidemiology of bovine, swine, ovine, caprine, and canine brucellosis in Brazil is reviewed and the zoonotic aspects of Brucella infection in Brazil are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathological, immunohistochemical and bacteriological study of tissues and milk of cows and fetuses experimentally infected with Brucella abortus.
Mariana N. Xavier,Tatiane A. Paixão,Fernando Padilla Poester,Andrey Pereira Lage,Renato L. Santos +4 more
TL;DR: This report describes a pathological, immunohistochemical and bacteriological study of 42 cows and their progeny infected at 6-7 months of gestation by conjunctival inoculation with Brucella abortus, finding the most significant lesions were necrotizing and suppurative placentitis and lymphohistiocytic mastitis in cows and fibrinous pleuritis and bronchopneumonia in aborted fetuses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of strain RB51 vaccine in heifers against experimental brucellosis
Fernando Padilla Poester,Vitor Salvador Picão Gonçalves,Tatiane A. Paixão,Renato L. Santos,Steven C. Olsen,Gerhardt G. Schurig,Andrey Pereira Lage +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that vaccination with RB51 prevented 59.4% of abortions, 58.6% of cow infections, and 61.0% of fetal infections in heifers, and the relative risk (RR) revealed that non-vaccinated animals have 2.029-5.889 times higher risk of aborting than RB51- vaccinated animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
NRAMP1 3' untranslated region polymorphisms are not associated with natural resistance to Brucella abortus in cattle.
Tatiane A. Paixão,Fernando Padilla Poester,Alcina Vieira de Carvalho Neta,Álan Maia Borges,Andrey Pereira Lage,Renato L. Santos +5 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that these polymorphisms at the NRAMP1 3′UTR do not affect resistance against B. abortus in cattle and that they are therefore not suitable markers of natural resistance against bovine brucellosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biotyping and genotyping (MLVA16) of Brucella abortus isolated from cattle in Brazil, 1977 to 2008.
Silvia Minharro,Silvia Minharro,Juliana Pinto da Silva Mol,Elaine Maria Seles Dorneles,Rebeca Barbosa Pauletti,Heinrich Neubauer,Falk Melzer,Fernando Padilla Poester,Maurício Gautério Dasso,Elaine S. Pinheiro,Paulo Martins Soares Filho,Renato L. Santos,Marcos Bryan Heinemann,Andrey Pereira Lage +13 more
TL;DR: Biotyping and MLVA16 genotyping of Brazilian B. abortus isolates were useful to better understand the epidemiology of bovine brucellosis in the region.
