Journal ArticleDOI

Muscle-bone interactions: From experimental models to the clinic? A critical update

TL;DR: Key musculoskeletal molecular pathways involved in mechanoregulation and their effect on the bone-muscle unit as a whole are reviewed, as well as preclinical and emerging clinical evidence regarding the effects of sarcopenia therapies on osteoporosis and vice versa are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sex hormone-binding globulin regulation of androgen bioactivity in vivo: validation of the free hormone hypothesis

TL;DR: Despite markedly raised total sex steroid concentrations, free testosterone was unaffected while sex steroid bioactivity on male and female reproductive organs was attenuated, and this occurred via a ligand-dependent, genotype-independent mechanism according to in vitro seminal vesicle organ cultures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Androgen Deficiency Exacerbates High-Fat Diet-Induced Metabolic Alterations in Male Mice.

TL;DR: It is concluded that sex steroid deficiency in combination with HFD exacerbates adiposity, insulin resistance, and β-cell failure in 2 preclinical male mouse models and may have implications for the prevention of metabolic alterations in hypogonadal men.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enobosarm (GTx-024) Modulates Adult Skeletal Muscle Mass Independently of the Androgen Receptor in the Satellite Cell Lineage

TL;DR: It is indicated that GTx-024 does not selectively modulate AR in the satellite cell lineage and that cells outside this lineage remain androgen responsive in satARKO muscle, and cells inside this lineage also contribute to the anabolic effects of androgens.
