Pedro Cardoso,Philip S. Barton,Klaus Birkhofer,Filipe Chichorro,Charl Deacon,Thomas Fartmann,Caroline Sayuri Fukushima,René Gaigher,Jan Christian Habel,Caspar A. Hallmann,Matthew J. Hill,Axel Hochkirch,Axel Hochkirch,Mackenzie L. Kwak,Stefano Mammola,Stefano Mammola,Jorge Ari Noriega,Alexander B. Orfinger,Alexander B. Orfinger,Fernando Pedraza,James S. Pryke,Fabio de Oliveira Roque,Fabio de Oliveira Roque,Josef Settele,Josef Settele,John P. Simaika,Nigel E. Stork,Frank Suhling,Carlien Vorster,Michael J. Samways +29 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a group of conservation biologists deeply concerned about the decline of insect populations, reviewed what we know about the drivers of insect extinctions, their consequences, and how extinctions can negatively impact humanity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Solutions for humanity on how to conserve insects
Michael J. Samways,Philip S. Barton,Klaus Birkhofer,Filipe Chichorro,Charl Deacon,Thomas Fartmann,Caroline Sayuri Fukushima,René Gaigher,Jan Christian Habel,Jan Christian Habel,Casper A. Pryke,Fabio de Oliveira Roque,Fabio de Oliveira Roque,Josef Settele,Josef Settele,Josef Settele,John P. Simaika,Nigel E. Stork,Frank Suhling,Carlien Vorster,Pedro Cardoso +32 more
TL;DR: The fate of humans and insects intertwine, especially through the medium of plants as mentioned in this paper, and despite a sound philosophical foundation, recognized ethical values, and scientific evidence, globally we are performing poorly at instigating effective insect conservation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of the relation between species traits and extinction risk
TL;DR: It is hypothesize that the relationship between body size and extinction risk is shaped by different aspects, namely the phenomena represented by body size depending on the taxonomic group, to increase the understanding of the drivers of extinction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of the reference list features on the number of citations
TL;DR: It is shown that highly cited articles across the ecological literature have longer reference lists, cite more recent and impactful references, and include more self-citations, at least in ecology.
