Nanophononics: state of the art and perspectives
Sebastian Volz,Jose Ordonez-Miranda,Andrey Shchepetov,Mika Prunnila,Jouni Ahopelto,Thomas Pezeril,Gwenaelle Vaudel,Vitaly Gusev,Pascal Ruello,Eva M. Weig,Martin Schubert,Mike Hettich,Martin Grossman,Thomas Dekorsy,Francesc Alzina,Bartlomiej Graczykowski,Emigdio Chavez-Angel,J. Sebastian Reparaz,Markus R. Wagner,Clivia M. Sotomayor-Torres,Shiyun Xiong,Sanghamitra Neogi,Sanghamitra Neogi,Davide Donadio +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the state of the art of nanophononics, describing the recent achievements and the open challenges in nanoscale heat transport, coherent phonon generation and exploitation, and in nano- and optomechanics.
Journal ArticleDOI
A one-dimensional optomechanical crystal with a complete phononic band gap
Jordi Gomis-Bresco,Daniel Navarro-Urrios,Mourad Oudich,Mourad Oudich,Said El-Jallal,Amadeu Griol,Daniel Puerto,Daniel Puerto,Daniel Puerto,E. Chavez,Yan Pennec,Bahram Djafari-Rouhani,Francesc Alzina,Alejandro Martínez,C. M. Sotomayor Torres +14 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates the excitation of acoustic modes in a one-dimensional OM crystal properly designed to display a full phononic bandgap for acoustic modes at 4 GHz.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduction of the thermal conductivity in free-standing silicon nano-membranes investigated by non-invasive Raman thermometry
Emigdio Chavez-Angel,Juan Sebastián Reparaz,Jordi Gomis-Bresco,Markus R. Wagner,J. Cuffe,Bartlomiej Graczykowski,Andrey Shchepetov,Hua Jiang,Mika Prunnila,Jouni Ahopelto,Francesc Alzina,C. M. Sotomayor Torres +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the reduction of the thermal conductivity in ultra-thin suspended Si membranes with high crystalline quality was investigated using Raman thermometry, a novel contactless technique for temperature determination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Two-Dimensional Phononic Crystals: Disorder Matters
Markus R. Wagner,Bartlomiej Graczykowski,Juan Sebastián Reparaz,Alexandros El Sachat,Marianna Sledzinska,Francesc Alzina,Clivia M. Sotomayor Torres +6 more
TL;DR: The increase of surface roughness and the introduction of short-range disorder are shown to modify the phonon dispersion and phonon coherence in the hypersonic (GHz) range without affecting the room-temperature thermal conductivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetotransport in disordered graphene exposed to ozone: From weak to strong localization
TL;DR: In this article, a magnetotransport study of graphene samples into which a mild disorder was introduced by exposure to ozone was presented, showing that the transition occurs as the phase coherence length becomes comparable to the localization length and highlighting the important role of disorderenhanced electron-electron interaction on the resistivity.
