Nanophononics: state of the art and perspectives
Sebastian Volz,Jose Ordonez-Miranda,Andrey Shchepetov,Mika Prunnila,Jouni Ahopelto,Thomas Pezeril,Gwenaelle Vaudel,Vitaly Gusev,Pascal Ruello,Eva M. Weig,Martin Schubert,Mike Hettich,Martin Grossman,Thomas Dekorsy,Francesc Alzina,Bartlomiej Graczykowski,Emigdio Chavez-Angel,J. Sebastian Reparaz,Markus R. Wagner,Clivia M. Sotomayor-Torres,Shiyun Xiong,Sanghamitra Neogi,Sanghamitra Neogi,Davide Donadio +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the state of the art of nanophononics, describing the recent achievements and the open challenges in nanoscale heat transport, coherent phonon generation and exploitation, and in nano- and optomechanics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Novel nonlinear-modulation acoustic technique for crack detection
TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-modulation effect consisting of the modulation transfer from an intensive, initially slowly amplitude-modulated stronger (pump) excitation to the probe signal is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Luxemburg-Gorky Effect Retooled for Elastic Waves: A Mechanism and Experimental Evidence
TL;DR: A new mechanism is proposed for the linear and amplitude-dependent dissipation due to elastic-wave-crack interaction that implies a drastic enhancement of the thermoelastic coupling at high-compliance microdefects and the high stress-sensitivity of the defects leads to a strong stress dependence of the resultant dissipation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Depth-profiling of elastic inhomogeneities in transparent nanoporous low-k materials by picosecond ultrasonic interferometry
Charfeddine Mechri,Pascal Ruello,J.-M. Breteau,Mikhail R. Baklanov,Patrick Verdonck,Vitaly Gusev +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the elasticity of a thin transparent film of a nanoporous low-k material using picosecond acoustic interferometry was extracted from time-resolved femtosecond optical reflectivity measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of the "Luxemburg-Gorky effect" for elastic waves.
TL;DR: An experimental observation of a new nonlinear-modulation effect for longitudinal elastic waves is reported, a direct elastic wave analogy with the so-called Luxemburg-Gorky (L-G) effect known over 60 years for radio waves propagating in the ionosphere.
