Journal ArticleDOI

Dehalobacter restrictus gen. nov. and sp. nov., a strictly anaerobic bacterium that reductively dechlorinates tetra- and trichloroethene in an anaerobic respiration

TL;DR: It is proposed to affiliate the isolate to a new genus, Dehalobacter, with PER-K23 as the type strain of the new species De Halobacter restrictus, based on the cytological, physiological, and phylogenetic characterization of the isolate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Contaminated environments in the subsurface and bioremediation: organic contaminants

TL;DR: New findings and developments give hope that in the near future contaminated aquifers can efficiently be remediated, a prerequisite for a sustainable use of the precious-subsurface drinking water resources.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of the Corrinoid Iron-Sulfur Protein Tetrachloroethene Reductive Dehalogenase of Dehalobacter restrictus

TL;DR: The membrane-bound tetrachloroethene reductive dehalogenase (PCE-RDase) (PceA), the terminal component of the respiratory chain of Dehalobacter restrictus, was purified 25-fold to apparent electrophoretic homogeneity and formed a coherent group of reductiveDehalogenases with almost 100% sequence identity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for anaerobic oxidation of methane in sediments of a freshwater system (Lago di Cadagno).

TL;DR: Very high fractionation of methane during oxidation was observed in the uppermost sediment layers, where methane is oxidized most likely with sulfate-containing bottom waters, however, it could not exclude that other electron acceptors such as iron, or manganese might also be involved.
