Journal ArticleDOI
Whole-genome resequencing reveals loci under selection during chicken domestication
Carl-Johan Rubin,Michael C. Zody,Michael C. Zody,Jonas Eriksson,Jennifer R. S. Meadows,Ellen Sherwood,Matthew T. Webster,Liang Jiang,Max Ingman,Ted Sharpe,Sojeong Ka,Finn Hallböök,Francois Besnier,Örjan Carlborg,Bertrand Bed'Hom,Michèle Tixier-Boichard,Per Jensen,Paul B. Siegel,Kerstin Lindblad-Toh,Kerstin Lindblad-Toh,Leif Andersson,Leif Andersson +21 more
TL;DR: The authors used massively parallel sequencing to identify selective sweeps of favorable alleles and candidate mutations that have had a prominent role in the domestication of domestic chickens and their subsequent specialization into broiler (meat-producing) and layer (egg-consuming) chickens.
Journal ArticleDOI
A high-density SNP-based linkage map of the chicken genome reveals sequence features correlated with recombination rate.
Martien A. M. Groenen,Per Wahlberg,Mario Foglio,Hans H. Cheng,Hendrik-Jan Megens,Richard P. M. A. Crooijmans,Francois Besnier,Mark Lathrop,William M. Muir,Gane Ka-Shu Wong,Ivo Gut,Leif Andersson +11 more
TL;DR: An analysis of the sequence composition at recombination hot and cold spots revealed a strong positive correlation between GC-rich sequences and high recombination rates, suggesting a functional relationship between recombination frequency and cohesin binding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic Architecture of Tameness in a Rat Model of Animal Domestication
Frank W. Albert,Örjan Carlborg,Irina Z. Plyusnina,Francois Besnier,Daniela Hedwig,Susann Lautenschläger,Doreen Lorenz,Jenny McIntosh,Christof Neumann,Henning Richter,Claudia Zeising,Rimma Kozhemyakina,O. A. Shchepina,Jurgen Kratzsch,Lyudmila Trut,Daniel Teupser,Joachim Thiery,Torsten Schöneberg,Leif Andersson,Svante Pääbo +19 more
TL;DR: Two significant quantitative trait loci (QTL) for tameness are identified that overlap with QTL for adrenal gland weight and for anxiety-related traits and are part of a five-locus epistatic network influencing tameness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic Influences on Brain Gene Expression in Rats Selected for Tameness and Aggression
Henrike O. Heyne,Susann Lautenschläger,Ronald M. Nelson,Francois Besnier,Maxime Rotival,Alex Cagan,Rimma Kozhemyakina,I. Z. Plyusnina,Lyudmila N. Trut,Örjan Carlborg,Enrico Petretto,Leonid Kruglyak,Svante Pääbo,Torsten Schöneberg,Frank W. Albert +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an F2 intercross of two outbred lines of rats selected for tame and aggressive behavior toward humans for >64 generations was used to identify four times more loci influencing tameness and aggression than by an approach that assumes fixation of causative alleles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fine mapping and replication of QTL in outbred chicken advanced intercross lines.
Francois Besnier,Per Wahlberg,Lars Rönnegård,Weronica E. Ek,Leif Andersson,Leif Andersson,Paul B. Siegel,Örjan Carlborg,Örjan Carlborg +8 more
TL;DR: This work has produced a nine-generation AIL pedigree from two outbred chicken lines divergently selected for body weight at eight weeks of age and developed a novel strategy to analyse the data that uses both genotype and pedigree information of all AIL individuals to replicate the detection of and fine-map QTL affecting juvenile body weight.
