Whole-genome resequencing reveals loci under selection during chicken domestication
Carl-Johan Rubin,Michael C. Zody,Michael C. Zody,Jonas Eriksson,Jennifer R. S. Meadows,Ellen Sherwood,Matthew T. Webster,Liang Jiang,Max Ingman,Ted Sharpe,Sojeong Ka,Finn Hallböök,Francois Besnier,Örjan Carlborg,Bertrand Bed'Hom,Michèle Tixier-Boichard,Per Jensen,Paul B. Siegel,Kerstin Lindblad-Toh,Kerstin Lindblad-Toh,Leif Andersson,Leif Andersson +21 more
TL;DR: The authors used massively parallel sequencing to identify selective sweeps of favorable alleles and candidate mutations that have had a prominent role in the domestication of domestic chickens and their subsequent specialization into broiler (meat-producing) and layer (egg-consuming) chickens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of the Yellow Skin Gene Reveals a Hybrid Origin of the Domestic Chicken
Jonas K Eriksson,Greger Larson,Ulrika Gunnarsson,Bertrand Bed'Hom,Michèle Tixier-Boichard,Lina Strömstedt,Dominic Wright,Annemieke P Jungerius,Addie Vereijken,Ettore Randi,Per Jensen,Leif Andersson,Leif Andersson +12 more
TL;DR: Surprisingly, the results demonstrate that yellow skin does not originate from the red junglefowl, the presumed sole wild ancestor of the domestic chicken, but most likely from the closely related grey Junglefowl (Gallus sonneratii).
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized evaluation of pulse oximetry in 20,802 patients: II. Perioperative events and postoperative complications.
J. T. Moller,N. W. Johannessen,Kurt Espersen,Odd Ravlo,Bente D. Pedersen,Per Jensen,Niels H. Rasmussen,Lars S. Rasmussen,Tom Pedersen,Jeffrey B. Cooper,Joachim S. Gravenstein,Bent Chraemmer-Jørgensen,Mogens Djernes,F. Wiberg-Jørgensen,Lars Heslet,Sophus H. Johansen +15 more
TL;DR: The authors describe the effect of pulse oximetry monitoring on the frequency of unanticipated perl-operative events, changes In patient care, and the rate of postoperative complications in a prospective randomized study in Denmark.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene expression across mammalian organ development
Margarida Cardoso-Moreira,Margarida Cardoso-Moreira,Jean Halbert,Delphine Valloton,Britta Velten,C. T. Chen,Yi Shao,Angélica Liechti,Kelly Ascencao,Coralie Rummel,Svetlana Ovchinnikova,Pavel V. Mazin,Pavel V. Mazin,Ioannis Xenarios,Keith Harshman,Matthew Mort,David Neil Cooper,Carmen Sandi,Michael J. Soares,Michael J. Soares,Paula G. Ferreira,Sandra Afonso,Miguel Carneiro,James M. A. Turner,John L. VandeBerg,Amir Fallahshahroudi,Per Jensen,R. Behr,Steven Lisgo,Susan Lindsay,Philipp Khaitovich,Philipp Khaitovich,Philipp Khaitovich,Wolfgang Huber,Julie C. Baker,Simon Anders,Yong Zhang,Henrik Kaessmann +37 more
TL;DR: It is found that the breadth of gene expression and the extent of purifying selection gradually decrease during development, whereas the amount of positive selection and expression of new genes increase during development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observations on the maternal behaviour of free-ranging domestic pigs
TL;DR: Individual differences in maternal behaviour among the animals studied may be interpreted either as genetically fixed inter-individual differences or as variable strategies, adopted to increase the lifetime reproductive success.
