Macromolecular organic compounds from the depths of Enceladus
Frank Postberg,Frank Postberg,Nozair Khawaja,Bernd Abel,Gaël Choblet,Christopher R. Glein,Murthy S. Gudipati,Bryana L. Henderson,Hsiang-Wen Hsu,Sascha Kempf,Fabian Klenner,Georg Moragas-Klostermeyer,Brian Magee,Brian Magee,Lenz Nölle,Mark E. Perry,René Reviol,Jürgen Schmidt,Ralf Srama,Ferdinand Stolz,Ferdinand Stolz,Gabriel Tobie,Mario Trieloff,J. Hunter Waite +23 more
TL;DR: The detection of complex organic molecules with masses higher than 200 atomic mass units in ice grains emitted from Enceladus indicates the presence of a thin organic-rich layer on top of the moon’s subsurface ocean.
Journal ArticleDOI
Titan's internal structure inferred from a coupled thermal-orbital model
TL;DR: In this paper, coupled thermal and orbital calculations including a full description of tidal dissipation, heat transfer and the H 2O-NH3 phase diagram were proposed for the internal structure and composition of Titan testable with Cassini-Huygens measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tidal dissipation within large icy satellites: Applications to Europa and Titan
TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach based on variational principles was proposed to calculate the radial distribution of the time-averaged dissipation rate in any satellite. But the approach was not applied to the Io, Europa, and Titan-like interiors, and the results obtained by two classical methods by determining global dissipation as well as radial and lateral distributions within satellite interiors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strong tidal dissipation in saturn and constraints on enceladus' thermal state from astrometry
Valéry Lainey,Özgür Karatekin,Josselin Desmars,Josselin Desmars,Sébastien Charnoz,J. E. Arlot,Nicolai Emelyanov,Nicolai Emelyanov,Christophe Le Poncin-Lafitte,Stéphane Mathis,Françoise Remus,Françoise Remus,Françoise Remus,Gabriel Tobie,Jean-Paul Zahn +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the current effect of the main moons on the orbits of the giant planet and found that the measured k2/Q is poorly sensitive to the tidal frequency, on the short frequency interval considered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tidally heated convection: Constraints on Europa's ice shell thickness
TL;DR: The thickness of Europa's ice shell is constrained with numerical experiments of thermal convection, including heterogeneous tidal heating as mentioned in this paper, which mainly results in the increase of the temperature of the well-mixed interior and in the decrease of the heat flux at the base of the ice layer.
