Causes of death in a post‐mortem series of ALS patients

TL;DR: A retrospective pathological study on 100 ALS patients referred for a deterioration of their clinical condition and who died in the ALS clinic of Salpétrière found that broncho‐pneumonia and pneumonia were the main causes of death, and heart failure was two times more frequent in bulbar than in spinal ALS.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impaired glucose tolerance in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

TL;DR: Patients with ALS show abnormal glucose tolerance that could be associated with increased FFA levels, a key determinant of insulin resistance, and the origin of glucose homeostasis abnormalities in ALS may be multifactorial and deserves further investigation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Progression in ALS is not linear but is curvilinear

TL;DR: The aim of the study is to determine the shape of the progression curve in ALS, assess the impact of clinical variables on the rate of progression, and evaluate the association between functional decline and survival.
