Magnetic resonance imaging of rectal cancer: what radiation oncologists need to know
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-invasive MR assessment of macroscopic and microscopic vascular abnormalities in the rectal tumour-surrounding mesorectum
Ewelina Kluza,Jean-Paul J. E. Kleijnen,Milou H. Martens,Dorit Rennspiess,Monique Maas,Cécile R. L. P. N. Jeukens,Robert G. Riedl,Axel zur Hausen,Geerard L. Beets,Regina G. H. Beets-Tan +9 more
TL;DR: Vascular MRI reveals macrovascular and microvascular abnormalities in the rectal tumour-surrounding mesorectum, and the association of primary Mesorectal macrov vascular parameters with node involvement and therapy response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Avoiding Unnecessary Major Rectal Cancer Surgery by Implementing Structural Restaging and a Watch-and-Wait Strategy After Neoadjuvant Radiochemotherapy
Jelle F. Huisman,I. J. H. Schoenaker,Richard M. Brohet,O. Reerink,H. van der Sluis,F. C. P. Moll,E. de Boer,J. C. de Graaf,W. H. de Vos tot Nederveen Cappel,Geerard L. Beets,Geerard L. Beets,H. L. van Westreenen +11 more
TL;DR: Multidisciplinary clinical response evaluation after nCRT for locally advanced rectal cancer led to a significant decrease in unnecessary surgery for the patients with a complete response at multidisciplinary response evaluation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined if transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) has a similar risk of low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) and altered quality of life (QoL) as patients who undergo LAR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Whole-volume vs. segmental CT texture analysis of the liver to assess metachronous colorectal liver metastases
Rianne C.J. Beckers,Regina G. H. Beets-Tan,Regina G. H. Beets-Tan,Roald S. Schnerr,Monique Maas,L. A. da Costa Andrade,Geerard L. Beets,Geerard L. Beets,Cornelis H. C. Dejong,Cornelis H. C. Dejong,Janneke B. Houwers,Doenja M. J. Lambregts +11 more
TL;DR: In this small patient cohort, a clear predictive value was not demonstrated to identify patients at risk of developing metachronous metastases within 2 years and segmental CT texture analysis of the liver probably has no additional benefit over whole-liver texture analysis.
