Journal ArticleDOI
Neoadjuvant (Chemo)radiotherapy With Total Mesorectal Excision Only Is Not Sufficient to Prevent Lateral Local Recurrence in Enlarged Nodes: Results of the Multicenter Lateral Node Study of Patients With Low cT3/4 Rectal Cancer
Atsushi Ogura,Atsushi Ogura,Atsushi Ogura,Tsuyoshi Konishi,Tsuyoshi Konishi,Chris Cunningham,Julio Garcia-Aguilar,Henrik Iversen,Shigeo Toda,In Kyu Lee,Hong Xiang Lee,Keisuke Uehara,Peter J Lee,Hein Putter,Cornelis J.H. van de Velde,Geerard L. Beets,Harm J. T. Rutten,Miranda Kusters +17 more
TL;DR: LLR is still a significant problem after (C)RT plus TME in LLNs with a short axis at least 7 mm on pretreatment MRI, and the addition of LLND results in a significantly lower LLR rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rectal Cancer: Assessment of Complete Response to Preoperative Combined Radiation Therapy with Chemotherapy—Conventional MR Volumetry versus Diffusion-weighted MR Imaging
Luís Curvo-Semedo,Doenja M. J. Lambregts,Monique Maas,Thomas Thywissen,Rana T. Mehsen,Guido Lammering,Geerard L. Beets,Filipe Caseiro-Alves,Regina G. H. Beets-Tan +8 more
TL;DR: Post-CRT DW MR volumetry provided high diagnostic performance in assessing CR and was significantly more accurate than T2-weighted MR volumsetry, which was equally as accurate as volume measurements of both T2 -weighted and DW MR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tumour ADC measurements in rectal cancer: effect of ROI methods on ADC values and interobserver variability
Doenja M. J. Lambregts,Geerard L. Beets,Monique Maas,Luís Curvo-Semedo,Alfons G.H. Kessels,Thomas Thywissen,Regina G. H. Beets-Tan +6 more
TL;DR: ROI size and positioning have a considerable influence on tumour ADC values and interobserver variability and Tumour ADC measurements are more reproducible before, rather than after, chemoradiation treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical value of whole-body positron emission tomography with [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose in recurrent colorectal cancer
Geerard L. Beets,Freddy Penninckx,C. Schiepers,L Filez,L. Mortelmans,Raymond Kerremans,Raymond Aerts,M. De Rao +7 more
TL;DR: Overall, whole‐body PET affected management in 14 patients and is a valuable tool for staging local recurrence and metastatic disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
A comparison between the treatment of low rectal cancer in Japan and the Netherlands, focusing on the patterns of local recurrence
Miranda Kusters,Geerard L. Beets,Cornelis J.H. van de Velde,Regina G. H. Beets-Tan,Corrie A.M. Marijnen,Harm J. T. Rutten,Hein Putter,Y. Moriya +7 more
TL;DR: Both extended surgery and RT+TME result in good local control, as compared with TME alone, and preoperative radiotherapy can sterilize lateral extramesorectal tumor particles.
