The Gaia-ESO Survey: Properties of the intermediate age open cluster NGC 4815
E. Friel,P. Donati,A. Bragaglia,Heather R. Jacobson,Laura Magrini,Loredana Prisinzano,Sofia Randich,Monica Tosi,Tristan Cantat-Gaudin,Antonella Vallenari,Rodolfo Smiljanic,G. Carraro,Rosanna Sordo,E. Maiorca,G. Tautvaisviene,P. Sestito,Simone Zaggia,F. M. Jiménez-Esteban,Gerry Gilmore,R. D. Jeffries,Emilio J. Alfaro,Thomas Bensby,Sergey E. Koposov,Andreas Korn,E. Pancino,A. Recio-Blanco,E. Franciosini,V. Hill,R. J. Jackson,P. de Laverny,L. Morbidelli,G. G. Sacco,C. C. Worley,A. Hourihane,M. T. Costado,Paula Jofre,K. Lind +36 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the Gaia-ESO survey data to derive the radial velocities, stellar atmospheric parameters, metallicity, and elemental abundances for stars targeted as potential members of the NGC 4815 open cluster.
Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of binary stars on dwarf spheroidal galaxy kinematics
TL;DR: In this article, a Monte-Carlo simulation was performed to estimate the effect of binary star orbits on the measured velocity dispersion in dwarf spheroidal galaxies, and it was shown that the contribution of binary stars to the velocity distribution is small, although this is dependent on the measuring errors and on the number of years over which measurements have been taken.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diffuse interstellar bands in RAVE Survey spectra
U. Munari,L. Tomasella,M. Fiorucci,Olivier Bienaymé,James Binney,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,C. Boeche R. Campbell,Kenneth C. Freeman,Brad K. Gibson,Gerry Gilmore,Eva K. Grebel,Amina Helmi,Julio F. Navarro,Quentin A. Parker,George M. Seabroke,A. Siebert,Alessandro Siviero,Matthias Steinmetz,F. G. Watson,M. Williams,R. F. G. Wyse,Tomaz Zwitter +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, spectra of hot stars from the RAVE Survey were used to investigate the visibility and properties of five diffuse interstellar bands previously reported in the literature, and the presence of a DIB at 8648 Ang was confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Accurate effective temperatures of the metal-poor benchmark stars HD140283, HD122563, and HD103095 from CHARA interferometry
I. Karovicova,Timothy R. White,Thomas Nordlander,Karin Lind,Karin Lind,Luca Casagrande,Michael J. Ireland,Daniel Huber,O. L. Creevey,Denis Mourard,Gail Schaefer,Gerry Gilmore,Andrea Chiavassa,Markus Wittkowski,Paula Jofre,Ulrike Heiter,F. Thévenin,Martin Asplund +17 more
TL;DR: For metal-poor benchmark stars, disagreement has been reported in this paper, where a set of 'benchmark' stars whose fundamental properties are well determined are used for validation of large stellar surveys of the Milky Way.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mass-Losing Semiregular Variable Stars in Baade's Windows
Christophe Alard,J. A. D. L. Blommaert,C. J. Cesarsky,N. Epchtein,Marcello Felli,P. Fouque,Shashikiran Ganesh,R. Genzel,Gerry Gilmore,Ian S. Glass,H. J. Habing,A. Omont,M. Perault,S. D. Price,Annie C. Robin,M. Schultheis,G. Simon,J. T. van Loon,Charles Alcock,R. A. Allsman,David R. Alves,T. S. Axelrod,A. C. Becker,David P. Bennett,K. H. Cook,Andrew J. Drake,Kenneth C. Freeman,Marla Geha,Kim Griest,Matthew J. Lehner,S. L. Marshall,Dante Minniti,C. A. Nelson,Bradley M. Peterson,P. Popowski,Mark Pratt,Peter J. Quinn,William J. Sutherland,A. B. Tomaney,T. Vandehei,Douglas L. Welch +40 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the mass loss rates of AGB stars are derived from ISOGAL mid-infrared photometry and models of stellar spectra adjusted for the presence of optically-thin circumstellar silicate dust.
